Proton e.MAS is strengthening its foothold in Malaysia’s electric vehicle (EV) market, recording more than 32,000 sales in the first nine months of 2026 while achieving its highest-ever monthly export volume in September. The national EV brand registered 3,701 units domestically last month, bringing its January-to-September total to 31,104 units.

This gives Proton e.MAS a 46.4% share of Malaysia’s EV market, maintaining its position as the country’s best-selling EV brand. Including overseas deliveries, Proton e.MAS recorded 4,340 sales in September, pushing its year-to-date total to 32,200 units. The achievement highlights the brand’s growing appeal at home and its efforts to establish a stronger presence in international markets.

The Proton e.MAS 5 remained the brand’s main sales driver in September, accounting for 2,490 domestic registrations, or 67.3% of its monthly total. Its strong performance reinforces the model’s importance in bringing electric mobility to a wider range of Malaysian buyers. The e.MAS 7 PHEV followed with 685 units, representing 18.5% of domestic registrations, while the fully electric e.MAS 7 recorded 526 units, contributing the remaining 14.2%.

The trend was similar across the first nine months of 2026. The e.MAS 5 led the lineup with 20,327 domestic registrations, followed by the e.MAS 7 PHEV with 6,247 units and the e.MAS 7 with 4,530 units. The figures underline the growing contribution of both fully electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid technology to Proton e.MAS’ overall sales performance, giving customers different electrified powertrain options to suit their needs.

While domestic sales continue to provide a strong foundation, Proton e.MAS is also making progress beyond Malaysian shores. September saw the brand ship 639 vehicles overseas, its highest monthly export volume to date. This brought total exports for the first nine months of 2026 to 1,096 units, with September alone accounting for 58.3% of that figure.

The e.MAS 5 led export shipments with 358 units, while the e.MAS 7 contributed another 276 units. The e.MAS 7 PHEV also made its international debut, with five units exported during the month. Although exports remain smaller than domestic sales, the latest figures suggest that Proton e.MAS is gaining momentum in its international expansion. The introduction of the e.MAS 7 PHEV to overseas markets also marks another step in broadening the brand’s reach.

Proton e.MAS’ latest monthly performance builds on a rapid rise since the e.MAS 7 made its debut in December 2024. The brand has now recorded 41,749 sales worldwide, comprising 39,994 domestic units and 1,755 exports. This follows the recent delivery of its 40,000th vehicle to a customer, a significant milestone achieved in less than two years since its first model entered the market.

Beyond selling vehicles, Proton e.MAS is also expanding the support network needed to make EV ownership more practical for Malaysian drivers. Its nationwide network now comprises 60 dealerships, 46 service centres and 10 Body & Paint centres. These facilities are supported by trained EV technicians and dedicated aftersales capabilities, helping owners access maintenance and support across the country.

Charging accessibility is another part of the equation. Proton e.MAS customers have access to more than 5,100 charging points covering 90% of Malaysia, including over 2,000 charging points located across more than 700 high-rise residential developments. The expansion is particularly relevant as more Malaysians consider switching to electric vehicles, with convenient charging access and dependable aftersales support remaining important considerations alongside vehicle price, range and performance.

Commenting on the results, Proton e.MAS chief executive officer Zhang said surpassing 32,000 sales in nine months, exceeding 40,000 cumulative deliveries and achieving record monthly exports were significant milestones for the brand. He also expressed appreciation for the trust placed in Proton e.MAS by its customers, adding that the company would continue to focus on delivering compelling EV products while strengthening the overall ownership and aftersales experience.
