BYD Sime Motors is expanding its presence in East Malaysia with the opening of a new 3S Centre in Miri, giving customers in northern Sarawak greater access to the brand’s electric vehicles, servicing facilities and aftersales support. Covering a total area of 12,228 sq ft, the new facility is BYD’s largest 3S Centre in Sarawak to date. It brings sales, servicing and spare parts support together under one roof, strengthening the brand’s ability to cater to the growing interest in electric mobility across the state.

The centre features a 5,838 sq ft showroom capable of displaying up to five vehicles, alongside a 6,390 sq ft service centre equipped with six service bays. The workshop can accommodate up to 35 vehicles daily, providing additional capacity for routine maintenance and aftersales requirements. Beyond its core facilities, the Miri 3S Centre has been designed to make the customer experience more comfortable and convenient. Visitors can enjoy a customer lounge, bar counter and discussion room, while a dedicated vehicle delivery bay allows customers to collect their new cars at the facility. EV charging facilities are also available for BYD sales and service customers.

Jeffrey Gan, Managing Director of Sime Motors for Southeast Asia, said the opening represents an important milestone for the brand in Sarawak. He added that as more Malaysians embrace electric vehicles, it is equally important for the company to expand its network and ensure customers have convenient access to both its vehicles and the aftersales care needed throughout ownership.

The new centre is operated by Kah Progression Auto Sdn. Bhd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Oriental Holdings Berhad. The facility is supported by a team of 15 employees covering sales and aftersales operations. Oriental Holdings brings more than 60 years of automotive industry experience across Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei. Its partnership with BYD and Sime Motors combines this established industry background with the growing electric vehicle segment, supported by local market knowledge and operational expertise.

To mark the opening, Kah Progression Auto will organise an interactive roadshow at Bintang Megamall in Miri from 16 to 18 October 2026. The event will take place at the Ground Floor, East Court (Old Wing), and will be open to visitors daily from 10am to 10pm. The roadshow offers an opportunity for the local community to get closer to the BYD brand and explore its electric vehicle offerings.

The Miri facility also forms part of BYD Sime Motors’ broader strategy to strengthen its presence across East Malaysia. The company opened East Malaysia’s first BYD 3S Centre in Kota Kinabalu in December 2024, establishing a dedicated sales and aftersales hub for customers in Sabah. In Sarawak, BYD Sime Motors now has three authorised outlets, located in Kuching, Sibu and Miri. The addition of the new centre enhances the network’s service capabilities while establishing a dedicated hub for customers in the northern part of the state.

Jacob Ma, Managing Director of BYD Malaysia, said the opening reinforces the company’s commitment to making electric mobility more accessible beyond the country’s major cities. Working alongside Kah Progression Auto, BYD Sime Motors aims to increase awareness of electric vehicles and bring its products and battery technology closer to communities across the region.
