The new Isuzu D-MAX 2.2-litre turbo diesel is taking on a demanding test of fuel efficiency, with Isuzu Malaysia launching the D-MAX One-Tank. One Nation challenge — a six-day journey around Peninsular Malaysia on a single tank of diesel. The challenge begins at the Isuzu 3S Centre in Balakong, Selangor, with the D-MAX set to travel through Negeri Sembilan, Johor, Pahang, Kelantan, Kedah and Perak before making its way back to Kuala Lumpur. The goal is simple but ambitious: complete the entire journey without refuelling.
According to Isuzu Malaysia Chief Operating Officer Kenichi Kudo, the latest D-MAX is well suited to the challenge thanks to its newly introduced 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine and eight-speed automatic transmission. The powertrain is designed to deliver strong performance while maintaining efficiency, with 56% of the engine’s maximum torque available from as low as 1,000rpm. This early torque delivery is complemented by the eight-speed automatic gearbox, allowing the pick-up to accelerate efficiently while maintaining relaxed cruising characteristics on longer highway stretches.
The journey will also provide an opportunity for D-MAX enthusiasts across the country to get involved. Brand ambassador Baki Zainal will accompany the expedition and provide updates along the route, while selected Isuzu dealerships will serve as pit stops where fans can meet Baki and the crew, as well as enjoy refreshments and special giveaways.
Beyond following the D-MAX’s progress, fans can also put their mileage-guessing skills to the test. Participants are invited to predict the total distance the pick-up will have travelled when it returns to Kuala Lumpur on Saturday. The participant who comes closest to the final mileage will take home a RM5,000 grocery shopping voucher, with additional prizes available for other participants.
The D-MAX One-Tank. One Nation challenge is intended to showcase the fuel efficiency and long-distance capabilities of Isuzu’s latest pick-up while bringing the brand and its customers together across the country.
