Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) has officially introduced the all-new Volkswagen Tayron, expanding its SUV portfolio with a new seven-seater model aimed at families and customers seeking greater versatility without compromising on comfort, technology, or driving dynamics.
Locally assembled at Volkswagen’s Pekan facility, the Tayron is positioned between the Tiguan and Touareg in the brand’s SUV range. The model is offered in two variants – the Elegance and the sportier R-Line. The Elegance is now available at a recommended retail price of RM189,890, while the R-Line is currently being previewed ahead of its official launch, with an estimated price ranging between RM259,000 and RM269,000.
To commemorate Malaysia’s upcoming 69th Merdeka celebrations, Volkswagen is offering a special introductory package to the first 69 Tayron owners. The package includes seven years of free maintenance, complimentary personal accident and car key coverage, as well as an opportunity to win a luxury three-day, two-night holiday.
According to Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia Managing Director Renate Noessler, the Tayron has been developed to reflect the changing lifestyles and expectations of Malaysian motorists. Designed to support customers through different stages of life, the new SUV combines practicality, comfort and advanced technology in a single package.
The Tayron Elegance is powered by a 1.5-litre eTSI mild-hybrid engine that produces 150PS and 250Nm of torque. The powertrain incorporates a 48-volt belt-driven starter-generator and Volkswagen’s Active Cylinder Management (ACTplus) technology, which can deactivate two cylinders under light load conditions to improve fuel efficiency.
The mild-hybrid system also assists during acceleration and recovers energy through regenerative braking. Together with the coasting function, these technologies contribute to lower fuel consumption and improved efficiency during everyday driving.
For buyers seeking stronger performance, the Tayron R-Line features a 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged engine delivering 265PS and 400Nm of torque. It is paired with Volkswagen’s 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system, providing enhanced traction and stability across varying road conditions.
Both variants are equipped with a seven-speed DSG transmission and Volkswagen’s Dynamic Chassis Control Pro (DCC Pro), which continuously adjusts suspension settings to balance comfort and handling according to driving conditions.
The Tayron adopts Volkswagen’s latest SUV design language, characterised by a prominent front fascia, sculpted bonnet and elongated roofline. Clean body lines and tight panel gaps contribute to a more premium appearance, while each variant receives its own styling treatment.
The Elegance variant features LED Plus headlights, 3D LED taillights and unique bumper designs that emphasise refinement. The R-Line adds IQ.LIGHT HD Matrix headlights with glare-free high-beam technology, dynamic rear turn signals and more aggressive exterior styling elements inspired by Volkswagen’s performance models.
Both variants include illuminated Volkswagen logos at the front and rear. Customers can choose from five exterior colours: Nightshade Blue, Oyster Silver, Dolphin Grey, Oryx White and Grenadilla Black.
Designed with practicality in mind, the Tayron offers a seven-seat configuration and up to 1,905 litres of luggage space with the second and third rows folded. The second-row seats feature a 40:20:40 split-folding arrangement, while the third row folds in a 50:50 configuration, allowing owners to adapt the cabin according to passenger and cargo requirements.
Premium Varenna leather ergoActive Plus front seats are fitted with 12-way electric adjustment, heating, ventilation and a 10-air-cushion massage function with selectable programmes lasting between 10 and 30 minutes.
The Elegance is equipped with an eight-speaker audio system, while the R-Line receives a Harman Kardon premium sound system featuring 10+1 speakers, a dedicated subwoofer, 700 watts of output and a 16-channel digital amplifier.
Inside, the Tayron introduces Volkswagen’s latest digital cockpit and infotainment technologies. Both variants feature a multifunction sports steering wheel with paddle shifters, a steering-column-mounted gear selector and a new rotary controller that provides access to drive modes, ambient lighting and audio controls.
The Elegance comes with a 12.9-inch Discover infotainment display, while the R-Line is fitted with a larger 15-inch Discover Pro Max system. Both operate on Volkswagen’s latest MIB4 software platform and support wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
A 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro instrument cluster is standard across the range, complemented by Volkswagen’s IDA voice assistant for hands-free operation. The R-Line further enhances the driving experience with a head-up display that projects key information directly onto the windscreen.
Safety remains a key focus for the Tayron, which achieved a five-star Euro NCAP rating. The SUV recorded scores of 87 per cent for Adult Occupant Protection, 85 per cent for Child Occupant Protection, 83 per cent for Vulnerable Road User Protection and 80 per cent for Safety Assist.
The Tayron is equipped with Volkswagen’s IQ.DRIVE suite of advanced driver assistance systems, including Adaptive Cruise Control with Travel Assist, Lane Assist, Side Assist, Rear Traffic Alert, Front Assist with pedestrian and cyclist monitoring, Park Assist Plus and Emergency Assist.
Additional safety features include a Proactive Passenger Protection System, Driver Attention Monitor and nine airbags. Among them is a front-centre airbag designed to reduce the risk of occupants colliding with one another during severe side impacts.
The all-new Volkswagen Tayron Elegance is now available at Volkswagen dealerships nationwide. The variant is priced at RM189,890, or RM199,990 when bundled with the Volkswagen Assurance Package, which includes five years of free maintenance, a five-year manufacturer’s warranty and five years of roadside assistance.
Meanwhile, the Tayron R-Line remains in preview phase ahead of its official market introduction, with an estimated price ranging from RM259,000 to RM269,000.
With its spacious seven-seat layout, electrified powertrain option and comprehensive suite of technologies, the Tayron marks Volkswagen’s latest effort to strengthen its presence in Malaysia’s growing SUV segment.
