UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) celebrated another successful chapter of its community-focused running event as the Toyota Start Your Impossible (SYI) Outrun 2026 returned for its fifth edition, attracting more than 7,500 participants to Dataran Wawasan, Putrajaya. The annual charity run not only united Malaysians through fitness and personal achievement but also raised RM200,000 in support of the National Cancer Society of Malaysia (NCSM).

Held on 5 July 2026, the event continued its tradition of combining healthy lifestyles with meaningful social impact. Participants from all walks of life took part in three race categories comprising the 5KM Fun Run, 10KM Competitive Run and 21KM Half Marathon. Families, casual runners and seasoned athletes gathered from the early morning hours, creating an energetic atmosphere throughout the day.

The competitive segments once again proved popular, with 2,200 runners taking part in the 10KM race and another 1,800 participants challenging themselves in the half marathon. Their enthusiasm highlighted the growing appeal of the event, which has become a fixture on Malaysia’s running calendar since its introduction in 2019.

According to UMW Toyota Motor President Datuk Ravindran K., the success of the fifth edition reflects the continued support and commitment shown by participants, partners and volunteers. He noted that Toyota SYI Outrun has evolved into a community event that Malaysians eagerly anticipate each year, while also serving as a platform to raise awareness and provide tangible support for important causes such as cancer care and patient assistance through NCSM.

Since its inception, the Toyota SYI Outrun has supported organisations dedicated to wellness, inclusivity and community development. The event initially partnered with the Paralympic Council of Malaysia before shifting its focus in recent years towards supporting NCSM and its efforts to assist cancer patients and their families.

Runners enjoyed scenic routes that passed some of Putrajaya’s most iconic landmarks, while an event village offered activities and engagement opportunities for participants and supporters alike. The competitive races added further excitement, with a total prize purse of RM138,000 awarded to the top ten finishers across the various categories.

A notable highlight of this year’s event was the appearance of Muhammad Ammar Aiman Nor Azmi, who attended his first UMW Toyota Motor event since joining the Global Team Toyota Athlete (GTTA) programme. The Johor-born para sprinter and Asian Para Games gold medallist embodies Toyota’s “Start Your Impossible” philosophy by demonstrating resilience, determination and the pursuit of excellence despite challenges.

His participation reinforced Toyota’s commitment to promoting inclusivity through sport and advancing its vision of “Mobility for All.” By showcasing athletes who inspire positive change both on and off the field, Toyota continues to encourage greater opportunities for individuals of all abilities to participate in sports and society.

As part of Toyota’s global Start Your Impossible initiative, the Outrun serves as more than just a running event. It represents an ongoing effort by UMW Toyota Motor to create meaningful community platforms that encourage active lifestyles, foster social connections and support worthy causes. With its fifth edition successfully concluded, the company remains committed to growing the event further and continuing its support for the National Cancer Society of Malaysia and the broader community in the years ahead.
