Proton has officially launched Proton Capital Sdn Bhd, its dedicated automotive financing arm aimed at making vehicle ownership more accessible and convenient for eligible customers. Rather than competing directly with existing financial institutions, Proton Capital is positioned as an additional financing option focused specifically on Proton vehicles. The company will work closely with Proton’s authorised dealer network to provide a more integrated financing experience, covering everything from application to vehicle delivery.
The launch ceremony brought together members of the Proton Capital Board, Proton and Geely Financial Services management, dealers and business partners. It also marked the formal authorisation of 10 dealership groups to offer Proton Capital services as the company begins its public operations in Malaysia.
For its initial phase, Proton Capital will cater to eligible individual customers purchasing new Proton vehicles through 12 participating outlets in the Klang Valley. The financing service is open to applicants including salaried employees, self-employed individuals and customers with other verifiable sources of income.
“The establishment of Proton Capital adds an important capability to PROTON’s business model. Financing plays a major role in the vehicle-purchase journey, and having a dedicated financing company allows us to work more closely with our dealers and respond more effectively to customers’ needs,” said Zhang Qiang, Chairman of Proton Capital.
Customers can submit their financing applications through participating authorised Proton outlets. Each application will be assessed individually, taking into account factors such as income, existing financial commitments, credit information and repayment affordability. For applications with complete documentation, Proton Capital aims to provide an initial decision within one working day. Applications requiring additional documentation, verification or further credit assessment may take longer.
At launch, Proton Capital will offer conventional hire-purchase financing for new Proton vehicles. This includes a standard fixed-rate package as well as a dedicated financing package for the Proton S70 taxi. The company also plans to expand its portfolio progressively, including financing options tailored for e-hailing customers. A Shariah-compliant financing option is targeted for introduction in early November, subject to product availability and the applicable terms and conditions.
“Our aim is to provide responsible financing solutions built around Proton customers and vehicles. We will begin with standard hire-purchase products and expand our offerings as we better understand the needs of different customer groups,” said Song Tao, Chief Executive Officer of Proton Capital.
Proton Capital will not charge customers an application fee when submitting a financing request. Other costs, including stamp duty, statutory charges, insurance or takaful premiums, registration charges and other applicable fees, will be disclosed in the relevant product disclosure sheet before the financing agreement is signed. Customers can also opt for the Proton Insurance Program for vehicle protection, subject to successful vehicle registration.
For repayment, monthly instalments can be made through online banking or DuitNow Transfer using the unique CIMB Bank account assigned to the financing account. A direct debit option is also available. Following its initial rollout, Proton Capital intends to progressively expand its services across the wider Proton dealer network, giving more customers access to an additional financing channel when purchasing a new Proton.
