The inaugural Penang Autoshow 2026 has wrapped up on a successful note, cementing its place as a major new platform for Malaysia’s automotive industry outside the Klang Valley. As the first regional expansion of the Malaysia Autoshow brand, the four-day event attracted 38,815 visitors and generated an estimated RM201.96 million in potential sales, highlighting the growing demand for modern mobility solutions in the northern region.
Organised by Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute, the showcase demonstrated strong public enthusiasm for both conventional and electrified vehicles. Over the course of the event, more than 439 vehicle bookings and upwards of 930 test drives were recorded, reflecting rising consumer confidence and a growing interest in next-generation automotive technologies.
Held as a key regional industry platform, the autoshow brought together 15 automotive brands alongside more than 50 exhibitors showcasing the latest developments in vehicle technology, mobility solutions, aftermarket products, and lifestyle offerings. The event was officially launched by Chow Kon Yeow, underlining the Penang state government’s support for innovation and the advancement of future mobility initiatives in the northern corridor.
Beyond the exhibition halls, visitors enjoyed a vibrant lineup of activities that catered to both enthusiasts and families. Highlights included curated car club gatherings, a Labour Day tribute performance by Malaysian rock legend Dato’ Awie, as well as a visually striking Tesla light show that added excitement to the event atmosphere.
One of the biggest attractions at Penang Autoshow 2026 was the unveiling of several highly anticipated vehicle models. Meanwhile, Hyundai officially opened bookings for the high-performance Hyundai IONIQ 5 N and Hyundai IONIQ 6 N, while also offering visitors an exclusive preview of the flagship Hyundai IONIQ 9 and the sleek Denza Z9 GT.
Adding further depth to the showcase, Carsome presented insights into the evolving automotive landscape, with a focus on transparency and trust in the pre-owned vehicle market.
The event also marked the return of Dunlop to the Malaysian market after a decade-long absence. The company introduced a fresh range of products, including the Blue Response TG tyre lineup designed specifically for electric vehicles.
Penang Autoshow 2026 also received a prestigious visit from Tun Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Ramli bin Ngah Talib, reinforcing the event’s significance as a strategic platform supporting Malaysia’s evolving automotive ecosystem.
The closing ceremony concluded with the announcement of the show’s major giveaway winners. Seng Siew Lean won the “Book a Car, Win a Car” contest and drove home a Chery Tiggo 7 PHEV CSH, while Siti Rahemah binti Alaw Deen claimed the grand lucky draw prize, a JAECOO J5.
