Proton has officially revealed the name of its updated sedan, which will be known as the 2027 Proton S70 RS, marking the next chapter for the brand’s popular sporty sedan. Alongside the announcement, the national carmaker has offered an early look at the model’s refreshed exterior, revised cabin and selected features ahead of its official launch.

The RS badge stands for Refined Sportiness, reflecting Proton’s intention to give the S70 a more distinctive and performance-focused identity. Developed around the theme “Performance with Style”, the updated model builds on the existing S70’s sporty character with sharper exterior styling, a more distinctive interior and refinements aimed at enhancing its driving appeal.

The 2027 Proton S70 RS receives a more assertive exterior treatment, with revised styling elements designed to give the sedan a stronger road presence. At the front, a redesigned grille and bumper introduce a new visual identity, complemented by intricate detailing and red accents. The sporty theme continues along the sides with redesigned skirts and 17-inch alloy wheels, which are paired with red brake calipers for added visual contrast. At the rear, the updated bumper and diffuser give the sedan a more aggressive appearance, while quad exhaust-tip finishers further emphasise its sportier character.

The changes extend into the cabin, where Proton has introduced a dual-tone interior with red accents to create a more performance-inspired atmosphere. A floating centre console and ambient lighting bring a more contemporary feel, while the addition of a Commander Dial and Automatic Column Shifter provides a different approach to accessing selected vehicle controls. Together, these updates give the S70 RS a more cohesive identity, with its sporting character reflected throughout both the exterior and interior.

Under the bonnet, the 2027 Proton S70 RS retains the i-GT 1.5-litre turbocharged engine, paired with a seven-speed Dual-Clutch Transmission (DCT). Proton claims a 0–100 km/h acceleration time of 7.5 seconds, allowing the updated sedan to carry forward the performance credentials of the current S70.

While the carmaker has yet to disclose the complete technical specifications or details of any mechanical revisions, the combination of its turbocharged powertrain and refreshed sporting design reinforces the model’s positioning as a sedan that balances everyday usability with a more engaging driving character.

The introduction of the S70 RS comes as the model continues to perform strongly in Malaysia’s sedan market. In October 2026, the S70 range recorded a combined 5,367 units in sales. Of this total, the newly introduced S70 i-GT 1.5 Lite and Prime variants contributed 2,338 units, leading the B-segment sedan category. Meanwhile, the more powerful variants accounted for another 3,029 units, maintaining the S70’s leadership in the C-segment sedan category. For the first 10 months of 2026, total S70 sales reached 26,076 units, underlining the model’s continued importance to Proton’s local line-up.

According to Dato’ Ir. Abdul Rashid Musa, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Proton, the S70 RS represents the next step in the model’s development, combining a more distinctive design with turbocharged performance and a sportier, driver-focused cabin while retaining the practicality expected by customers.

To further highlight the S70 RS’s “Performance with Style” theme, Proton will collaborate with a renowned local fashion designer for a special fashion showcase scheduled for 10 November 2026 at 8.00 PM. The event will combine the S70 RS line-off reveal with an industrial-inspired runway presentation, bringing automotive design and contemporary fashion together to reflect the sedan’s new identity. The showcase will also be livestreamed through Proton’s official social media platforms, allowing the public to follow the event online.
