SAIC Motor Malaysia is gearing up to introduce the locally assembled all-new MG ZS to the Malaysian market by the end of October 2026, offering buyers a choice between turbocharged petrol power and hybrid efficiency in a modern, technology-focused SUV. Following its preview at the KL International Mobility Show 2026 (KLIMS 2026), the new MG ZS will be offered in two variants: the MG ZS 1.5 Turbo and the MG ZS Hybrid+, with estimated prices of RM105,000 and RM115,000 respectively.
Both prices are for Peninsular Malaysia and exclude insurance. To sweeten the deal, SAIC Motor Malaysia is offering exclusive early-bird benefits worth RM3,000, along with five years of complimentary maintenance, to the first 1,000 customers who book the vehicle. There is no booking deadline, with the promotion available until the allocation for the first 1,000 customers has been filled.
Emory Qi, Managing Director of SAIC Motor Malaysia, said the positive response to the MG ZS during its KLIMS 2026 preview had reinforced the company’s excitement about bringing the SUV to local buyers. He also highlighted the MG ZS Hybrid+’s dedicated hybrid powertrain and three-speed Hybrid Transmission, which are designed to balance performance and efficiency by keeping the powertrain operating within its most efficient range. The result, according to MG, is a combination of responsive performance, smoother driving and reduced energy wastage.
One of the MG ZS’s main attractions is the choice of two distinct powertrains, allowing buyers to decide whether conventional turbocharged performance or lower fuel consumption better suits their driving habits. The MG ZS 1.5 Turbo is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 170PS (125kW) and 275Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels through a continuously variable transmission (CVT), providing a straightforward combination for daily commuting and longer highway journeys. Fuel consumption is rated at 6.9 litres per 100km, while the 55-litre fuel tank provides practical capacity for everyday use and longer trips.
For those looking to reduce fuel bills without committing to a fully electric vehicle, the MG ZS Hybrid+ offers a more electrified approach. Its hybrid system combines a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with a 100kW electric motor and a 1.83kWh high-capacity nickel-cobalt-manganese (NCM) battery. Together, the system delivers a combined maximum output of 215PS (158kW) and 465Nm of torque, making it the more powerful option in the range. An advanced three-speed Hybrid Transmission manages power delivery, bringing together the electric motor’s responsive acceleration and the convenience of a petrol-electric hybrid system.
Unlike a plug-in hybrid or fully electric vehicle, the MG ZS Hybrid+ does not require an external charging connection. Its hybrid system manages battery energy during normal driving, making it a convenient option for motorists who want electrified driving without changing their refuelling routines. Under suitable driving conditions, the SUV can also travel in EV mode at speeds of up to 80km/h, potentially delivering a quieter and smoother experience in certain situations.
The Hybrid+ accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in 8.7 seconds, while its claimed fuel consumption figure of 4.7 litres per 100km makes it the more economical choice on paper. With a 41-litre fuel tank, MG quotes a driving range of up to 870km on a full tank. For buyers who spend plenty of time navigating city traffic, the combination of electric assistance and petrol-engine convenience could make the Hybrid+ an appealing alternative to a conventional petrol SUV.
Beyond its powertrain options, the new MG ZS places considerable emphasis on interior space and everyday practicality. Measuring 4,430mm long and 1,818mm wide, MG describes the SUV as the largest B-segment model in its class. Its dimensions provide the foundation for a cabin designed to offer improved headroom and legroom, complemented by an ergonomic layout, premium materials and intelligent storage solutions. Luggage capacity is another highlight.
The boot provides 443 litres of space, which can be expanded to 1,457 litres when the rear seats are folded down. That flexibility should prove useful for everything from weekly shopping and school runs to family holidays and weekend getaways. Rather than focusing solely on exterior styling, the MG ZS aims to deliver the sort of practicality that matters when an SUV becomes part of everyday life.
The dashboard adopts a contemporary, technology-focused design, featuring a 12.3-inch floating infotainment display and a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster. The two screens give the cockpit a modern appearance while placing entertainment functions and essential driving information within easy view. A panoramic sunroof adds to the cabin’s airy atmosphere, helping create a more open environment for occupants.
On the outside, the MG ZS combines sleek proportions with sporty design details intended to help it stand out in the crowded SUV market. The front fascia features Connected Hunter Eyes headlights, black grille accents and sculpted bodywork, giving the vehicle a distinctive appearance. At the rear, LED taillights and a smooth spoiler contribute to its contemporary styling, while modern alloy wheels complete the look.
The design aims to strike a balance between visual appeal and everyday usability, making the MG ZS suitable for navigating urban streets while retaining the versatility expected of an SUV. Malaysian buyers can choose from four exterior colours: Flare Red, Silver, Andes Grey and York White. All colour options are paired with a premium all-black interior featuring perforated leatherette seats designed to provide comfort and support during daily commutes and longer journeys.
Technology in the MG ZS extends beyond its digital displays, with MG PILOT Driver Safety Technology providing a suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) 2.5 features designed to support driving confidence and convenience. Among the highlighted features are Intelligent Cruise Assist (ICA) and a Driver Fatigue Monitoring System (DFMS). These systems are intended to help drivers manage certain driving tasks and improve awareness, although they do not replace the need for attentive driving.
The SUV also comes equipped with MG iSMART, which allows owners to access and control selected vehicle functions remotely through their smartphones. Keyless entry functionality is among the convenience features, giving owners additional ways to interact with their vehicle. Together, these technologies help position the MG ZS as a modern SUV designed around the expectations of today’s connected motorists.
With its locally assembled status, two powertrain choices and generous equipment list, the all-new MG ZS is preparing to enter Malaysia’s competitive B-segment SUV market with a compelling mix of practicality, performance and technology. The estimated RM10,000 price difference between the two variants also gives buyers a straightforward choice to consider. The 1.5 Turbo offers a conventional petrol-powered package, while the Hybrid+ adds electric assistance, greater combined output and a lower claimed fuel consumption figure.
For buyers who regularly cover long distances or encounter heavy urban traffic, the Hybrid+ could be worth considering for its potential fuel savings. Those who prefer a conventional petrol powertrain may find the 1.5 Turbo a suitable alternative. Both variants are now open for booking through the official MG Malaysia website at www.mgmalaysia.com.
Customers who book the all-new MG ZS can also enjoy exclusive benefits worth RM3,000 and five years of complimentary maintenance, provided they are among the first 1,000 customers to secure their bookings. Importantly, there is no booking deadline for this promotion; the benefits remain available until the first 1,000-customer allocation is filled. For those who would rather see the SUV in person before making a decision, the MG ZS Hybrid+ will be on display at Nexus Bangsar South from 19 to 23 October 2026, between 10am and 10pm.
