Bermaz Motor has concluded its 12th Annual Mazda Charity Golf Tournament, bringing together 200 participants for two days of sporting camaraderie and charitable giving at Glenmarie Golf & Country Club on 9 and 10 October 2026. Now a well-established fixture on the company’s annual calendar, the tournament has evolved from a modest charitable initiative into a key fundraising event for the Mazda Medicare Fund (MMF).
Through the event, Bermaz Motor continues to demonstrate how its commitment to the automotive industry can extend beyond vehicles to making a meaningful difference in the lives of underprivileged Malaysians. The tournament brought together business partners, government representatives, Mazda customers, golf enthusiasts and community members, united by a shared commitment to supporting those in need.
The highlight of the two-day programme was the charity luncheon on 10 October, graced by His Royal Highness the Sultan of Pahang, Al Sultan Abdullah Riayatuddin Al Mustafa Billah Shah Ibni Al Marhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah. As Royal Patron of the Mazda Medicare Fund since 2015, His Royal Highness has played an important role in championing charitable initiatives that provide assistance to vulnerable communities.
Also attending the luncheon were Datuk Dr Mahathar bin Abdul Wahab, Director General of Health Malaysia; YB Dato Mohamad Nizar bin Dato Sri Mohamad Najib, Pahang State Executive Council Member; and Datuk Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim Sikh Abdul Majid, Chief Executive Officer of the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA). Their presence highlighted the importance of collaboration between the corporate sector, government agencies and community organisations in expanding the reach of charitable efforts.
Tan Sri Dato Sri Ben Yeoh, Executive Chairman of Bermaz Auto Berhad, said the tournament represents a collective commitment to helping communities and providing assistance to those who need it most. He emphasised that corporate responsibility should be demonstrated through tangible action rather than words, adding that the continued support from partners, customers and distinguished guests has helped sustain the Mazda Medicare Fund’s mission over the years.
For Bermaz Motor, the tournament is therefore about more than a day on the golf course. It provides an opportunity for different groups to come together behind a common cause, reinforcing the belief that collective action can create a lasting social impact.
A key moment during the charity luncheon saw representatives from selected beneficiary organisations receive symbolic mock cheques, marking the continuation of Bermaz Motor’s support for medical care, welfare services and facilities serving vulnerable communities.
The five beneficiaries for 2026 are:
- Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital
- Pertubuhan Kebajikan Kanak Kanak Yatim Dan Cacat Perlindungan Selangor
- Pusat Jagaan Anak Anak Yatim Sai Pandian
- Pertubuhan Rumah Anak Yatim Dan Asnaf Kampung Sijankang
- Yayasan Al Sultan Abdullah
The organisations serve a range of needs, from cancer treatment and social welfare to providing shelter, protection and care for children and disadvantaged groups. Through the Mazda Medicare Fund, Bermaz Motor aims to ensure that charitable contributions translate into practical assistance for people facing financial difficulties and other challenges.
Established in 2015 through a long-standing collaboration between Prima Merdu Sdn Bhd and B. Braun Avitum Renal Services, the Mazda Medicare Fund was initially created to help end-stage renal disease patients access life-saving haemodialysis treatment despite financial hardship. Over time, its scope has expanded beyond medical assistance to include support for elderly care homes, orphanages, disability centres and facilities serving children with special needs.
Beneficiaries undergo an evaluation process to promote transparency, accountability and meaningful use of the fund’s resources. The MMF also directs all contributions towards charitable purposes without unnecessary overheads, reinforcing its commitment to responsible fund management. The annual golf tournament remains an important platform for raising support for these initiatives, while the fund’s broader activities help ensure that assistance reaches a diverse range of beneficiaries.
Beyond its annual fundraising event, Bermaz Motor has also introduced a way for Mazda customers to support the cause throughout the year through the Mazda Privilege Card (MPC). Launched in 2018, the programme combines charitable contributions with ownership benefits. The card carries a one-time sign-up fee of RM100, which goes directly to the Mazda Medicare Fund and qualifies for tax exemption through the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (LHDN), subject to applicable requirements.
In return, cardholders enjoy a 15% discount on selected Mazda Genuine Spare Parts and a 5% discount on labour charges at Bermaz Motor and Prima Merdu Mazda showrooms and service centres nationwide. The initiative allows Mazda owners to contribute to a wider social cause while enjoying savings on selected aftersales services. It also provides the fund with an additional avenue for sustained support beyond its annual fundraising activities.
