MAN Truck & Bus has unveiled the latest generation of its all-electric eTGX heavy-duty truck at IAA Transportation 2026, bringing together improved aerodynamics, a new battery generation, higher recuperation performance and faster charging to make long-distance electric freight transport more practical. A key change is the redesigned front end, which has been extended by 120 millimetres. MAN is making use of the additional length permitted under European Union regulations for zero-emission vehicles, using the extra space to optimise the truck’s aerodynamic performance while also improving driver visibility.

Together with its new-generation batteries, the updated eTGX is up to three per cent more energy efficient than the previous model. The new battery technology provides 10 per cent more usable energy while retaining the compact dimensions, modularity and relatively low weight of the previous battery system. For a typical 4×2 semitrailer tractor fitted with six battery packs, total capacity stands at 552 kWh. This configuration can achieve a maximum range of up to 660 kilometres, with MAN stating that more than 500 kilometres can be achieved under typical real-world long-haul operating conditions.

The eTGX can also be configured as a 6×2 semitrailer tractor with seven battery packs. With 644 kWh of total capacity, this version can travel up to 720 kilometres without an intermediate charging stop, while a typical range of more than 600 kilometres is considered achievable in everyday long-haul operations. The seventh battery is made possible by the three-axle configuration, which allows the fifth wheel to be positioned further towards the rear and creates space for an additional battery mounted transversely behind the cab. The seventh unit retains the same 92 kWh gross capacity as the standard battery pack despite its flatter, elongated shape.

MAN has also expanded the eTGX’s electric powertrain range with a new flagship motor producing 440 kW, equivalent to 598 hp. This is accompanied by 490 hp and 349 hp power levels, giving the eTGX and eTGS families a wider range of electric power outputs. The new 598 hp motor can deliver up to 480 kW of recuperation power, while the 490 hp and 349 hp versions offer up to 420 kW and 320 kW respectively.

The increased recuperation capability not only helps return more energy to the battery but also provides strong continuous braking performance, which can be particularly useful when operating a heavy vehicle on long descents. Charging downtime has also been addressed through MAN’s optional Megawatt Charging System (MCS), which has been in series production since July. With charging power of up to 750 kW, the eTGX can replenish its batteries in around 30 minutes, allowing charging to be incorporated into the driver’s mandatory driving break. For fleet operators, the combination of longer range and shorter charging stops can help reduce vehicle downtime and improve utilisation.

The redesigned front is not solely focused on efficiency. MAN has also used the changes to improve the driver’s view of the area immediately around the truck. The front features a single-frame grille, continuous fog light strip and optimised wind deflectors, while the lowered dashboard and windscreen wiper system contribute to a better direct view of road users in front of the vehicle.

A new low-visibility window in the passenger door further improves visibility on the right-hand side, particularly when making turns. The additional window consists of interior and exterior panes designed to improve cabin acoustics and prevent fogging, while its tint provides additional privacy. These visibility improvements also position the new eTGX to meet upcoming legal requirements concerning direct vision.

MAN has complemented the safety upgrades with new assistance technologies. Its FrontDetection, Turning Assist and Emergency Brake systems are designed to provide greater protection for vulnerable road users, including at low speeds. The company’s EfficientCruise anticipatory cruise control system has also been enhanced to make greater use of traffic infrastructure information, with the aim of improving both efficiency and driving comfort.

While efficiency remains a key focus, MAN has added several features aimed at making life behind the wheel more comfortable. The updated eTGX can be equipped with wireless smartphone charging, EasyControl buttons on the passenger door, a more powerful 230-volt socket capable of delivering up to 1.2 kW, a heated front mirror and a mechanical night lock for additional security during rest periods.

An extended curtain provides greater privacy inside the cab, while customers looking for a more distinctive appearance can specify the MAN Individual Lion S package. The package includes a black exterior styling treatment, redesigned front lid, side design window, full side trim and a black roof light bar featuring double-row LED light bars.

The new eTGX forms part of MAN’s broader electric commercial vehicle strategy. The manufacturer’s electric portfolio now spans the eTGL, eTGM, eTGS and eTGX, covering applications from 12 to 50 tonnes. All four series use a modular technology approach based around common high-voltage components and battery technology, allowing MAN to adapt its electric trucks to different applications and operating requirements.
