Xiaomi has expanded its electric vehicle portfolio with the introduction of the new SkyNomad Series, a range of extended-range SUVs designed with an emphasis on cabin space, seating flexibility and family-oriented practicality. The lineup is built on the company’s newly developed Kunlun Platform and will initially be offered in two variants targeting different buyer requirements.

The range consists of the seven-seat SkyNomad N90 Max, which is positioned as the flagship model, alongside the five-seat SkyNomad N70 Max. In China, the N90 Max carries a pre-sale price of RMB299,900, while the N70 Max starts from RMB259,900.

Rather than prioritising exterior styling before interior packaging, Xiaomi says the SkyNomad was developed with cabin usability as the primary consideration. This has resulted in a more upright body profile intended to maximise passenger room while maintaining SUV proportions.

The larger N90 Max measures 5,285 mm long with a 3,080 mm wheelbase, while the N70 Max is slightly smaller at 4,960 mm in length with a 2,950 mm wheelbase. Both models feature squared-off styling, large door openings and an aerodynamic design that includes an active grille.

Inside, the cabin adopts a minimalist layout with a wide centre console, hidden air vents and extensive soft-touch materials. Xiaomi states that most high-contact surfaces are covered in soft materials, while front seats are equipped with ventilation, heating and massage functions as standard on selected variants.

A major focus of the SkyNomad Series is interior versatility. Xiaomi’s Kunlun Platform enables a largely flat cabin floor extending from the front seats to the luggage compartment, allowing multiple seating and cargo configurations.

The seven-seat N90 Max offers up to 2,760 mm of occupant space, while luggage capacity can expand to 1,831 litres when additional cargo space is required. Long sliding seat rails allow the second and third rows to be repositioned depending on passenger or storage needs.

Depending on seating arrangements, the cabin can be configured for business meetings, family travel, camping or resting. The seats can also be folded to create a sleeping area measuring up to 2.3 metres in length. Additional storage compartments and configurable centre console accessories further enhance practicality for everyday use.

Safety forms a significant part of the SkyNomad’s development programme. Xiaomi says the vehicle uses a steel-aluminium hybrid body structure with extensive use of high-strength materials, including ultra-high-strength steel in key load-bearing areas.

The N90 Max is equipped with 12 airbags, while the vehicle also incorporates multiple collision sensors designed to improve airbag deployment accuracy under different impact scenarios. Xiaomi notes that its testing programme includes crash simulations using different occupant sizes, including child occupants.

The SkyNomad Series also introduces the company’s latest battery system, known as the Armor Scale Battery. Xiaomi states the battery incorporates multiple structural protection layers, thermal management measures and quality control processes developed through its in-house battery research programme.

Powering the infotainment system is a computing platform based on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, supporting multiple connected displays, dual 5G connectivity and Wi-Fi 7.

The vehicle also includes Xiaomi’s Hyper XiaoAi voice assistant, enabling occupants to control various cabin functions through voice commands. Additional digital features include a configurable head-up display, a rear control screen and compatibility with several accessory mounting options throughout the cabin.

Driver assistance hardware includes LiDAR, radar and multiple cameras, forming the basis of Xiaomi’s assisted driving system. According to the company, the platform supports functions such as navigation-assisted driving and voice-controlled driving operations, with further software updates planned in the future.

Instead of relying solely on battery power, the SkyNomad Series uses an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) powertrain, combining an electric drivetrain with a petrol-powered range extender.

Battery capacities range from 52 kWh to 76 kWh depending on the model. Xiaomi claims the N70 Max offers up to 505 km of electric-only driving range under the CLTC testing cycle, while the larger N90 Max is rated for up to 464 km. With both the battery and fuel tank utilised, the company states the N90 Max can achieve a combined driving range of up to 1,705 km under the same testing standard.

The flagship model is equipped with dual electric motors producing a combined output of 310 kW, paired with double wishbone front suspension, multi-link rear suspension, adaptive air springs and continuously variable dampers. Xiaomi says these components are intended to balance ride comfort with handling characteristics despite the vehicle’s large dimensions.

Pre-orders for the Xiaomi SkyNomad Series opened in China on 30 July, with deliveries expected to follow according to production scheduling. At present, Xiaomi has not announced plans for international availability or exports outside its domestic market.
