Proton e.MAS has reached a major milestone in Malaysia’s rapidly expanding electrified vehicle market, surpassing 30,000 registrations in just 20 months since the launch of the Proton e.MAS 7 in December 2024.

As of 31 July 2026, the national xEV brand had recorded 31,504 registrations, including 30,293 domestic registrations. The achievement makes Proton e.MAS the fastest automotive brand in Malaysia to reach the 30,000-registration mark, highlighting the accelerating acceptance of electrified mobility among local consumers.

Beyond the headline figure, the 30,293 domestic registrations represent thousands of Malaysian motorists who have incorporated electrified mobility into their everyday lives. The growing customer base has also provided the foundation for Proton e.MAS to expand charging infrastructure, strengthen aftersales support, increase local manufacturing capabilities and contribute to the development of a broader xEV ecosystem.

The brand’s growth has not been limited to Malaysia. Since export operations began, more than 1,211 Proton e.MAS vehicles have been delivered to international markets. The newer Proton e.MAS 5 has also started its overseas expansion, with 130 units exported to date, bringing the brand’s more accessible EV proposition to customers beyond Malaysia.

The latest milestone follows another significant achievement earlier this year, when Proton e.MAS surpassed 20,000 registrations in 2026 alone. That figure had already exceeded the brand’s entire sales volume for 2025 within the first half of the year, underlining the sharp acceleration in demand for electrified vehicles.

Proton e.MAS’ growing presence in the Malaysian market has been supported by a three-model lineup covering different segments of the xEV market.

The Proton e.MAS 5 has emerged as Malaysia’s best-selling EV model, with 13,279 units delivered. Meanwhile, the Proton e.MAS 7 has established itself as the country’s best-selling C-segment electric SUV, recording 12,068 units delivered.

Completing the lineup is the Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV, which has achieved 4,946 deliveries to become Malaysia’s best-selling plug-in hybrid model.

Together, the three models have broadened consumer choice while helping Proton e.MAS strengthen its position as Malaysia’s leading xEV brand.

Zhang Qiang, Chief Executive Officer of PRO-NET, said the achievement reflected growing consumer confidence in electrified mobility and the increasingly important role xEVs are playing in the Malaysian automotive landscape.

According to Zhang, every new Proton e.MAS customer contributes to the development of the wider EV ecosystem, with growing adoption creating benefits that extend beyond individual vehicle ownership.

Proton e.MAS’ strategy has also focused heavily on developing the infrastructure and support network needed to make EV ownership more convenient.

The brand now has 58 dealerships nationwide, supported by 45 service centres and 10 Body & Paint centres. This expanding network is designed to provide customers with easier access to sales, servicing and aftersales support across the country.

Charging accessibility has also become a major focus. The Proton e.MAS Integrated Live Charging Map now features more than 4,700 charging points, covering over 90% of Malaysia.

Of these, more than 1,500 charging points are located across more than 600 condominiums, helping address one of the key challenges faced by urban EV owners who may not have access to private home charging.

Through participating high-rise residential charging partners, Proton e.MAS customers can also access charging rates from as low as RM0.63 per kWh when payment is made through the Proton e.MAS app.

Proton e.MAS’ expansion is also contributing to the development of Malaysia’s domestic EV manufacturing capabilities.

Following the start of local assembly for the Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV, all three Proton e.MAS models are now assembled in Malaysia. The e.MAS 7 PHEV currently incorporates 30% local content, with localisation expected to increase progressively.

To support rising domestic demand as well as future export opportunities, PROTON has invested a further RM37 million to expand the capabilities of its dedicated EV manufacturing facility.

The investment increases annual production capacity from 20,000 units to 42,000 units, providing additional capacity to support the brand’s continued growth both in Malaysia and overseas.

The expansion also aligns with Proton e.MAS’ contribution to Malaysia’s broader electrification ambitions under the Government’s National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), while strengthening the country’s capabilities in EV production and the wider electrified vehicle supply chain.

With more than 30,000 customers having already chosen Proton e.MAS in just 20 months, the brand’s rapid rise illustrates how quickly electrified mobility is moving from an emerging technology into an increasingly mainstream choice for Malaysian car buyers.
