As Malaysia’s electric vehicle (EV) market continues to expand, PRO-NET is strengthening the industry’s technical workforce with the certification of its first batch of Level 2 (L2) e.MAS technicians.
A total of 37 technicians from 25 authorised Proton e.MAS dealerships nationwide have successfully completed the e.MAS Technician Certification Programme, earning L2 certification at the inaugural e.MAS Technician Certification Ceremony held in collaboration with TVETMARA.
The milestone highlights PRO-NET’s efforts to ensure its growing EV customer base has access to properly trained technicians capable of handling the specialised requirements of electric vehicles, particularly when it comes to safety, diagnostics and high-voltage systems.
According to PRO-NET Chief Executive Officer Zhang Qiang, the transition to electric mobility involves more than simply putting new EVs on Malaysian roads. A strong supporting ecosystem and skilled workforce are equally important to delivering a dependable customer experience.
“The shift towards electric mobility is not only about introducing advanced vehicles, but also about building the capabilities and ecosystem needed to support customers throughout their ownership journey,” said Zhang.
“Through the e.MAS Technician Certification Programme, we are investing in our people, elevating aftersales standards and developing a future-ready workforce that will play a key role in supporting Malaysia’s transition towards electrified mobility.”
The need for qualified EV technicians is becoming increasingly important as Proton e.MAS continues to grow its presence in Malaysia.
More than 30,000 Proton e.MAS vehicles were on Malaysian roads as of July 2026. To support these customers, PRO-NET has developed a nationwide network comprising 58 dealerships, 45 service centres and 10 Body & Paint centres.
However, having a wide service network is only part of the equation. Technicians with the appropriate EV-specific knowledge and practical skills are essential to ensuring vehicles can be maintained and repaired safely and effectively.
The e.MAS Technician Certification Programme, developed in collaboration with TVETMARA, provides a structured pathway for technicians to build these capabilities.
For the L2 certification, participants completed seven training modules covering key areas of EV technology and servicing. This included specialised High Voltage (HV) system training, followed by technical assessments designed to evaluate both their theoretical knowledge and practical abilities.
The certification programme was independently verified by TVETMARA Masjid Tanah, ensuring that the technicians who achieved L2 status met the required competency standards.
Representatives from PRO-NET and TVETMARA, along with dealer principals and service managers from selected dealerships, attended the certification ceremony. Among the distinguished guests were TVETMARA Deputy Director of Management Services & Student Affairs Hady Suhairy Baseri and Zhang Qiang.
The latest certification is not intended to be a one-off initiative. PRO-NET views technician development as a long-term investment in its aftersales capabilities as the e.MAS fleet continues to expand.
Following the completion of its first L2 cohort, PRO-NET plans to conduct technician certification programmes annually across Level 2, Level 3 and Level 4.
This will provide technicians with a clearer progression path, allowing them to move from foundational EV competencies towards more advanced technical expertise.
The initiative also forms part of PRO-NET’s wider efforts to develop Malaysia’s EV ecosystem beyond vehicle sales and customer support.
The company is currently developing local EV production capabilities at the PROTON EV Plant in the Automotive High Tech Valley (AHTV) in Tanjong Malim. The facility currently supports 391 employees.
With EV adoption accelerating in Malaysia, the availability of skilled technical talent will become increasingly important. By combining investment in technician training with the expansion of its service infrastructure and local EV production capabilities, PRO-NET aims to build a more comprehensive ecosystem around the Proton e.MAS brand.
Ultimately, the company hopes these efforts will give Malaysian EV owners greater confidence that the vehicles they drive will be supported by a trained and increasingly specialised aftersales workforce.
