The Porsche Esports Sprint Challenge Malaysia (PESCM) 2026 has reached its decisive stage, with the country’s fastest young sim racers set to battle for honours at the PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit on 22 August 2026. Now in its third edition, the championship has continued to evolve into an important platform for young Malaysians looking to explore motorsport through sim racing. This year’s finale will take place alongside the Porsche ARBox Carrera Cup Asia (PCCA) 2026, putting the virtual racers within touching distance of the real-world racing action that inspires them.
Christopher Hunter, Chief Executive Officer of Sime Darby Auto Performance, highlighted the increasing sophistication of sim racing and its relevance to developing future racing talent. “Sim racing today is much more sophisticated than moving pixels on a screen. It demands focus, precision, discipline and the ability to make split-second decisions under pressure: qualities that are equally important on a real racetrack,” he said. Hunter added that PESCM has grown significantly over the past three years, providing young enthusiasts with an avenue to discover their potential while helping strengthen the connection between virtual and physical motorsport.
The 2026 PESCM features its most diverse grid yet, with participants aged between 10 and 23 competing across four categories. The existing Junior Dreamers category is open to racers aged 10 to 14, while Young Dreamers caters to those aged 15 to 17 and Driven Dreamers is for participants aged 18 to 23. Joining them this year is the new Female Dreamers category, which welcomes female racers aged 10 to 23.
The addition of Female Dreamers represents another effort by Porsche Malaysia to broaden access to sim racing and create more opportunities for young women to develop their skills in a competitive motorsport environment. The 2026 field also includes returning competitors, many of whom are coming into the latest edition with valuable experience from previous seasons. Their familiarity with the format is expected to make the competition even more closely fought as established racers take on a new generation of challengers.
PESCM has been structured to replicate the progression and demands of a real-world racing programme rather than simply relying on online competition. The journey began with the first qualifying session using a virtual version of Zhuhai International Circuit. From there, the top 30 racers from each Porsche Centre advanced to regional qualifying sessions held at Porsche Centres in Ara Damansara, Sungai Besi, Penang and Johor Bahru. For the regional stage, competitors tackled a virtual Shanghai International Circuit, competing not only for outright lap times but also for the opportunity to represent their chosen Porsche Centre.
The finalists subsequently received individual coaching from experienced sim racers, along with driver profile sessions and physical assessments. These activities were designed to give participants a broader understanding of the preparation and discipline required in competitive motorsport. The top 10 racers from each Porsche Centre then progressed to the final qualifier at Pavilion Bukit Jalil, where spectators gathered to watch the young competitors fight for their places in the Sepang finale.
One of the strongest examples of the link between sim racing and real-world motorsport is last year’s Driven Dreamers champion, Naquib Azlan. After winning the 2025 PESCM title, Naquib has taken the next step in his racing career in 2026, competing professionally for Team Porsche Malaysia in the PRO category of the Porsche ARBox Carrera Cup Asia.
The Malaysian driver is piloting the #17 Porsche 911 Cup race car, providing this year’s PESCM finalists with a tangible example of where a successful journey in sim racing could lead. His progression also reflects Porsche Malaysia’s broader ambition to use esports as more than an entertainment platform, instead creating opportunities for young competitors to develop the skills and experience needed to pursue motorsport further.
The final stage at Sepang will place the finalists in a new environment, with the competition unfolding alongside the Porsche ARBox Carrera Cup Asia. Each PESCM category will begin with a free practice session before qualifying establishes the starting order. The championship will then be decided by a 20-minute sprint race, leaving little room for mistakes.
With the competition condensed into a short race, every braking point, overtaking opportunity and lap will be crucial as the finalists battle to claim their respective category titles. For the young sim racers, the experience will also provide an opportunity to watch professional drivers, teams and Porsche 911 Cup race cars competing on the same circuit just metres away from their own virtual contest.
The chequered flag will not mark the end of the experience for this year’s podium finishers. Alongside trophies and certificates, category winners will receive an exclusive Porsche driving experience as part of a prize package supported by Mobil 1. The partnership reflects the long-standing relationship between Porsche and Mobil 1, which has spanned three decades and centred on performance, engineering and innovation. Mobil 1 products have been used extensively in demanding motorsport environments, while Porsche vehicles leave the factory filled with Mobil 1 engine oil.
The PESCM finale will form part of an important weekend for Porsche motorsport in Malaysia, with the Porsche ARBox Carrera Cup Asia entering its 23rd season in 2026. The championship has attracted a record 30-driver grid representing 12 countries and regions, while also marking a significant milestone as the first Porsche one-make series globally to compete with the new-generation 992.2 Porsche 911 Cup race car.
After visits to Shanghai, Zhuhai, Fuji and Bangsaen, the championship heads to PETRONAS Sepang International Circuit from 21 to 23 August for its Malaysian triple-header, featuring Rounds 9, 10 and 11. Team Porsche Malaysia will once again represent the nation on home soil, with Naquib Azlan continuing his campaign in the #17 Porsche 911 Cup car.
