McLaren Automotive has revealed the all-new 788HS, a special edition supercar that marks the final and most focused chapter of a celebrated model family that began with the groundbreaking 720S and evolved through the 765LT and 750S. Designed as the ultimate expression of McLaren’s acclaimed supercar series, the 788HS combines increased power, advanced aerodynamics, lightweight engineering and extensive personalization options to create a fitting finale for one of the brand’s most successful generations.
The new model carries the prestigious “HS” or “High Sport” designation, a badge reserved for only the most exclusive McLaren creations. Before the 788HS, the title had been bestowed on just two models – the MP4-12C HS and the MSO HS – making this latest addition one of the rarest and most significant cars in McLaren’s modern history.
At the heart of the 788HS lies McLaren’s renowned 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged M840T V8 engine, producing 788PS and 800Nm of torque. Paired with a remarkably low dry weight of just 1,265kg, the supercar achieves a class-leading power-to-weight ratio of 623PS per tonne, the highest figure recorded within the 720S, 750S and 765LT family.
Performance figures underline the car’s capabilities. The 788HS accelerates from 0-100km/h in just 2.8 seconds, reaches 200km/h in 7.0 seconds and continues on to a top speed of 330km/h. The engine revs to 8,500rpm and features lightweight forged pistons, ultra-low inertia twin-scroll turbochargers and twin fuel pumps to maximize responsiveness and performance.
Aerodynamics play a central role in the 788HS’s development. McLaren engineers have introduced the most advanced aerodynamic package ever fitted to this platform, delivering a 10 percent increase in downforce compared with the already formidable 765LT. Key features include a newly designed S-Duct bonnet, a raised active rear spoiler, a Formula 1-inspired rear diffuser and a bespoke front splitter. Together, these elements improve stability, cornering performance and driver confidence at high speeds.
Additional aerodynamic enhancements include a louvred under-wing panel that improves cooling efficiency and airflow management. For customers seeking the ultimate lightweight specification, McLaren also offers a full Visual Carbon Fibre body option, available in either gloss or satin finishes, showcasing the extensive use of advanced carbon fibre construction throughout the vehicle.
Inside, the 788HS maintains a driver-focused philosophy. A lightweight carbon fibre centre console reinforces the performance-oriented character, while bespoke HS branding, unique upholstery perforation patterns and a dedicated commemorative plaque distinguish the cabin from other models in the range.
Dynamic performance has been elevated through a series of chassis and suspension upgrades. The linked-hydraulic Proactive Chassis Control III suspension system receives a bespoke calibration, while the front ride height has been lowered by 5mm compared with the 750S. These changes enhance body control, steering precision and driver engagement without sacrificing everyday usability.
Braking performance has also been upgraded with carbon ceramic brake discs derived from the McLaren Senna. Combined with six-piston forged aluminium monoblock front calipers and integrated cooling ducts, the system delivers exceptional stopping power and consistency during sustained high-performance driving.
For the first time in this supercar series, McLaren has fitted a centre-lock wheel system, paired with newly developed Super Lightweight Forged Alloy wheels that further reduce unsprung mass and improve handling response.
Enhancing the sensory experience is a revised quad-exit titanium exhaust system that amplifies the distinctive soundtrack of McLaren’s twin-turbocharged V8. The exhaust produces a more dramatic start-up note and a richer, more intense sound at higher engine speeds. Complementing this is a unique engine mount calibration and revised sound symposer technology, creating a stronger connection between driver and machine.
According to McLaren, the 788HS was engineered with a singular objective: to deliver the most visceral and engaging driving experience possible. By combining exceptional performance, advanced aerodynamics, lightweight construction and bespoke craftsmanship, the 788HS serves as both a celebration of the 720S lineage and a memorable conclusion to one of the most acclaimed supercar families in the company’s history.
As the third McLaren ever to wear the coveted High Sport badge, the 788HS stands as a rare and exclusive collector’s piece that encapsulates everything the brand has learned from years of developing some of the world’s most thrilling road cars.
