Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia has unveiled the latest Golf R, a high-performance hatchback that raises the benchmark for driving enthusiasts with increased power, sharper handling and an expanded range of performance-focused technologies.
Priced from RM337,790, the new Golf R continues its motorsport-inspired legacy while introducing a host of upgrades designed to deliver greater excitement on both road and track. At its heart lies a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder TSI engine producing 333PS and 420Nm of torque, enabling the performance hatchback to sprint from 0 to 100km/h in just 4.6 seconds. Power is delivered through a seven-speed DSG transmission, ensuring rapid gear changes and seamless acceleration.
Adding to the Golf R’s appeal is the R Performance Package, which equips the vehicle with an Akrapovič titanium exhaust system, a larger rear spoiler and an increased electronic top speed of 270km/h. The package not only enhances the car’s visual presence but also contributes to improved aerodynamics and a more engaging soundtrack.
Engineered to maximise agility, the Golf R features rear-axle torque vectoring, allowing power to be distributed between the rear wheels for improved cornering performance and traction. Complementing this system are Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC), sports suspension, progressive steering and the XDS electronic differential lock, all working together to deliver precise handling and exceptional driver confidence.
Drivers can further tailor the vehicle’s character through multiple driving profiles, including Comfort, Sport, Race, Special and Drift modes. The Nürburgring-inspired Special mode optimises the chassis for demanding roads, while Drift mode enhances rear-wheel torque distribution for a more playful driving experience in controlled environments.
Visually, the Golf R adopts a more assertive appearance with dedicated R styling elements, including bespoke bumpers, side skirts, rear diffuser and illuminated Volkswagen badging. The hatchback also rides on 19-inch Estoril alloy wheels wrapped in performance-oriented tyres, reinforcing its sporty credentials. Advanced IQ.Light LED Matrix headlights provide adaptive illumination for improved visibility during night driving. 
Inside the cabin, Volkswagen combines performance with premium comfort. Occupants are welcomed by R sports seats upholstered in Nappa leather and equipped with Active Climate functionality. The driver benefits from adjustable lumbar support and memory settings, while a 10-inch Digital Cockpit Pro and head-up display provide essential information directly within the driver’s line of sight.
Technology plays a central role in the Golf R experience. A 12.9-inch infotainment system supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, while wireless charging and multiple USB-C ports ensure seamless device integration. Audiophiles can enjoy a premium Harman Kardon sound system featuring nine speakers and a subwoofer, delivering a powerful in-cabin audio experience.
Safety remains a key focus, with the Golf R equipped with Volkswagen’s IQ.DRIVE suite of driver assistance systems.
