As demand for crossover and SUV vehicles continues to rise across Malaysia, UMW Toyota Motor has officially introduced the all-new Toyota Yaris Cross, further strengthening its position in one of the country’s fastest-growing automotive segments.

The launch marks an important step in Toyota’s ongoing push towards electrified mobility, with the Yaris Cross offered in both Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) and Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) variants. By providing multiple powertrain choices, Toyota aims to cater to a broader range of Malaysian drivers seeking a practical compact SUV that combines versatility, technology and fuel efficiency.

Priced from RM99,900 for the ICE version and RM109,900 for the hybrid model, the Yaris Cross enters the competitive B-SUV market as an accessible option for buyers looking to upgrade to a more sophisticated and technologically advanced urban SUV.

Toyota’s latest SUV also supports the company’s “Multi-Pathway” mobility strategy, which focuses on offering different electrification solutions tailored to varying customer lifestyles, infrastructure readiness and driving preferences.

The exterior design of the Yaris Cross blends sporty SUV styling with compact dimensions suited for city driving. Strong body proportions, short overhangs and large 18-inch machined alloy wheels give the vehicle a commanding road presence while maintaining manoeuvrability in urban settings.

Distinctive rear combination lamps stretching across the vehicle’s width further enhance its modern SUV appearance.

Inside, the cabin features a contemporary layout with soft-touch materials, satin-plated accents and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. A unique Blue Black interior theme with blue contrast stitching adds a premium touch, while the driver-focused cockpit includes a 7-inch TFT digital instrument display that allows users to customise information layouts.

Despite its compact size, the Yaris Cross delivers impressive practicality for daily commuting and family use. The luggage compartment offers 471 litres of cargo capacity, supported by a flexible two-level deck board and underfloor storage space for improved organisation.

Toyota has also equipped the SUV with a range of convenience-focused features aimed at enhancing daily usability. These include a 10.1-inch infotainment display with wireless smartphone connectivity, a Panoramic View Monitor, wireless charging, rear USB-C charging ports and a power back door with kick sensor functionality.

A higher driving position also improves outward visibility, helping drivers feel more confident in traffic and during longer journeys.

Under the bonnet, the ICE variant is powered by Toyota’s proven 2NR-VE engine paired with a CVT transmission, delivering smooth and efficient performance for everyday use.

Meanwhile, the HEV version adopts Toyota’s Hybrid Electric System, combining a 2NR-VEX petrol engine with an electric motor to produce a total system output of 111 PS. The hybrid setup allows the vehicle to operate in electric-only mode during low-speed conditions, reducing fuel consumption and emissions while providing quieter urban driving.

The lithium-ion battery pack is positioned beneath the rear seats to preserve cargo space and improve weight distribution.

Safety remains a major focus for the Yaris Cross, with the SUV equipped with Toyota Safety Sense, the brand’s suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Features include systems designed to assist with lane positioning, forward collision monitoring and night-time visibility enhancement.

Additional technologies such as Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross Traffic Alert further improve driver awareness and confidence on the road.

The all-new Yaris Cross will be locally assembled at Toyota’s manufacturing plant in Bukit Raja, reinforcing Toyota’s commitment to local production and long-term investment in Malaysia’s automotive industry.

Customers can now place bookings for both variants at authorised Toyota dealerships nationwide, while Toyota’s nationwide network of more than 100 service centres will continue to provide aftersales support and maintenance services throughout the ownership experience.
