GWM Malaysia has officially expanded its rugged SUV portfolio with the launch of the new GWM TANK 300 HEV, introducing hybrid technology to its proven off-road platform while preserving the model’s authentic adventure-ready DNA.

The latest addition to the TANK line-up combines electrified performance, premium comfort and genuine off-road engineering, offering Malaysian buyers a more refined alternative without compromising the vehicle’s rugged capabilities.

Globally, the TANK 300 has steadily built a strong reputation in the off-road SUV segment, earning the Off-Road SUV Champion title in China from 2021 to 2025. Since making its Malaysian debut in 2024, the model has also gained traction locally, surpassing 1,000 owners and cultivating a growing enthusiast community.

According to Roslan Abdullah, the introduction of the hybrid variant reflects the brand’s commitment to expanding customer choice while maintaining the core identity of the TANK series.

Unlike many SUVs that focus primarily on rugged styling, the GWM TANK 300 HEV remains a true body-on-frame off-roader engineered for challenging terrain. Its ladder-frame construction continues to provide the durability, strength and torsional rigidity required for serious off-road adventures.

Powering the SUV is a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine producing 245 PS and 380 Nm, paired with an electric motor contributing an additional 106 PS and 268 Nm. Combined, the hybrid system delivers an impressive 346 PS and 648 Nm of torque.

The electrified setup not only enhances performance but also improves refinement and efficiency. Drivers can expect quieter operation, smoother acceleration and stronger low-speed responsiveness, especially during city driving and long-distance journeys.

Despite its hybrid powertrain, the TANK 300 HEV retains the same hardcore off-road architecture as its combustion-powered sibling. The SUV continues to feature a full-time on-demand four-wheel-drive system alongside 4L low-range gearing for extreme conditions.

To further boost capability, the SUV comes equipped with multiple terrain modes including Normal, Eco, Sport, Snow, Mud, Sand and 4L settings. Off-road-focused technologies such as Tank Turn Assist and Crawl Control also remain available, helping drivers tackle tight trails and uneven terrain with greater confidence.

Structurally, the SUV utilises extensive ultra-high-strength steel in its construction, with high-strength steel accounting for 99 percent of the frame. GWM says the platform achieves torsional rigidity of 284.5 kN·m/rad, enhancing stability and resistance against body twisting during off-road driving.

While the exterior retains the TANK 300’s signature boxy silhouette and commanding road presence, the cabin introduces a more premium and lifestyle-oriented experience.

Inside, buyers will find Nappa leather upholstery, a 9-speaker Infinity premium audio system and a range of advanced infotainment and connectivity features designed to improve comfort and convenience during daily use.

The HEV variant also gains exclusive smart functions including app-based remote vehicle monitoring and controls. Owners can remotely access information such as tyre pressure, fuel levels, battery status and vehicle location, while also operating features like the air-conditioning system, seat ventilation and sunroof directly from their smartphones.

Another notable addition is Auto Parking Assist, allowing the SUV to automatically detect and execute parking manoeuvres with minimal driver intervention.

On the safety front, the GWM TANK 300 HEV comes equipped with a full Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System suite.

Features include Adaptive Cruise Control, Autonomous Emergency Braking with Junction Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Centering, Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross Traffic Alert with Braking. A 360-degree camera system and Hill Descent Control further enhance both urban and off-road driving confidence.

The new TANK 300 HEV is offered in Crystal Black, Pearl White and a new HEV-exclusive Sand Beige exterior finish.

Priced at RM259,800 on-the-road without insurance for Peninsular Malaysia, the SUV also comes with a RM3,000 loyalty rebate for existing GWM owners.

To strengthen ownership value, GWM Malaysia includes five years of free maintenance covering labour and parts, as well as five years of complimentary Level 2 telematic services for the HEV model.

Warranty coverage includes:

  • Lifetime engine and transmission warranty for first-hand private owners
  • 8-year / 180,000 km power battery warranty
  • 6-year unlimited mileage vehicle and HEV system warranty

The GWM TANK 300 HEV is now available at selected GWM dealerships nationwide, offering Malaysian buyers a new option that blends electrified refinement with genuine off-road capability.
