Proton has taken another significant step in strengthening its international presence with the launch of the Proton X50 in Trinidad and Tobago. Following its earlier entry into Brunei this year, the popular B-segment SUV continues its global expansion, reflecting the brand’s growing ambitions beyond its home market.
The launch event, organised in collaboration with local distributor ANSA Motors, highlights Proton’s commitment to building a stronger foothold in overseas markets. As part of its broader export strategy, the move signals increasing confidence in the Caribbean region’s potential and the company’s ability to deliver competitive products tailored to diverse markets.
The latest iteration of the Proton X50 builds upon the success of its predecessor with enhanced performance and refinement. Under the hood, it is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged i-GT engine that produces 181PS and 290Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. This combination ensures responsive acceleration, improved efficiency with fuel consumption rated at 6.1L/100km, and a smooth driving experience suited for both city and highway conditions.
Design updates further elevate the SUV’s appeal, featuring sharper exterior lines and a more assertive stance. Inside, the cabin adopts a more modern and technology-driven approach, highlighted by an upgraded infotainment system that enhances connectivity and user interaction, catering to the expectations of today’s drivers.
Safety remains a cornerstone of the Proton X50’s offering. The model is equipped with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), including a 360-degree camera and intelligent parking assist, alongside a comprehensive suite of safety technologies aimed at boosting driver awareness and passenger protection.
According to ANSA Motors, the Proton X50 presents a compelling value proposition in Trinidad and Tobago, combining premium features with competitive pricing. This balance makes advanced automotive technology more accessible to a broader audience while maintaining the model’s stylish and practical appeal.
The introduction of the Proton X50 in this new market also underscores Proton’s steady progress in export performance. In 2025, the company recorded 6,000 units in export sales—its highest level since forming its partnership with Geely—marking a key milestone in its international growth journey.
Looking ahead, Proton plans to further expand its global footprint in 2026 by introducing new models, strengthening its distribution networks, and increasing export volumes across multiple regions. This strategy will include both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric vehicle (EV) offerings, ensuring the brand remains competitive in an evolving automotive landscape.
With its Caribbean debut, the Proton X50 not only broadens its reach but also reinforces Proton’s vision of becoming a globally recognised automotive player, delivering quality, innovation, and value to customers worldwide.
