Team Malaysia has achieved a major milestone in amateur golf, claiming its first-ever championship title at the 2026 MercedesTrophy World Final in Stuttgart, Germany. Held from 28 September to 2 October 2026, the prestigious tournament brought together finalists from around the world after months of qualifying competitions in their respective countries.

The Malaysian team secured the overall championship with a total score of 168, marking a landmark achievement for the country in one of Mercedes-Benz’s signature customer sporting events. The victory was made even more memorable by two individual podium finishes, with Liew Kim Seng taking first prize in Singles Category B, while Ng Jun Lip secured second prize in Singles Category A.

The winning team comprised Ng Jun Lip, Mohd Azli bin Jamal and Liew Kim Seng, who earned their places at the global final after emerging victorious in their respective categories at the 2026 MercedesTrophy National Final Malaysia, held at The Els Club Desaru Coast in Johor. Their journey began with four qualifying rounds held across Malaysia before culminating in the national championship. Their performance in Germany demonstrated the consistency and composure needed to compete against international finalists, ultimately delivering Malaysia its first title at the World Final.

“Team Malaysia’s achievement in securing its first-ever MercedesTrophy World Final championship reflects the very best of what the tournament stands for: excellence, passion, sportsmanship, and teamwork,” said Elaine Hew, General Manager of Marketing Communications at Mercedes-Benz Malaysia. She added that the team had represented Malaysia with distinction on the global stage, describing the victory as a milestone that would inspire fellow golfers and Mercedes-Benz customers for years to come.

For the champions, the experience was about more than the final standings. Ng Jun Lip described the victory as an unforgettable experience and credited the result to the collective effort of his teammates, while thanking Mercedes-Benz for its hospitality and the opportunity to compete internationally. Mohd Azli bin Jamal similarly reflected on the pride of bringing the title home, describing the trip as an experience to remember. Liew Kim Seng also highlighted the satisfaction of seeing their hard work pay off, particularly through the opportunity to represent Malaysia alongside his teammates.

With approximately 60,000 golfers from 60 countries participating in MercedesTrophy annually, the tournament has become an established platform for bringing Mercedes-Benz customers together through their shared passion for golf. The 2026 World Final programme extended beyond the competition itself, giving participants an opportunity to experience German hospitality, explore the Mercedes-Benz brand and connect with fellow golfers from different markets.

The golfers were hosted at the five-star Der Öschberghof resort in the Black Forest, where they competed against the backdrop of the surrounding landscape, with views extending towards Lake Constance and the Swiss Alps. The programme also included visits to Stuttgart, widely recognised as the birthplace of the automobile. Participants toured the Mercedes-Benz Museum to explore the brand’s automotive heritage before visiting its Sindelfingen plant, offering a closer look at the manufacturing operations behind its vehicles.

Adding to the occasion was the presence of Bernhard Langer, Mercedes-Benz Global Brand Ambassador and a two-time Masters champion who has been associated with the brand since 1985. Participants had the opportunity to test their abilities in the “Beat Bernhard Langer” challenge, taking on one of golf’s most respected figures in a memorable addition to the World Final experience.

The Malaysian team’s historic victory also highlights Mercedes-Benz Malaysia’s broader approach to customer engagement, where the ownership experience extends beyond the vehicle itself. Through Agility+ by Mercedes-Benz, its total mobility solution, the brand aims to connect customers with a wider range of curated experiences that reflect their interests and lifestyles. MercedesTrophy serves as one such platform, bringing amateur golfers together while strengthening relationships within the Mercedes-Benz community across international markets.

As Mercedes-Benz marks 140 years of automotive history, the tournament reflects how its longstanding values of craftsmanship, progress and innovation can extend into experiences beyond mobility. For Malaysia, however, the most significant takeaway from the 2026 edition is the result on the golf course. By securing the country’s first MercedesTrophy World Final championship, Ng Jun Lip, Mohd Azli bin Jamal and Liew Kim Seng have written a new chapter in Malaysia’s participation in the competition, bringing home a prestigious international title and setting a new benchmark for future teams.
