SAIC Motor Malaysia has celebrated the winners of its ‘Celebrate National Pride’ campaign, bringing its Merdeka and Malaysia Day festivities to a close with a prize-giving ceremony at MG Motor Glenmarie, Shah Alam. The campaign’s grand prize winner, Nur Sara ‘Atikah binti Saiful Azlan, attended the ceremony with her family to receive an Apple MacBook Neo after taking part in the nationwide initiative, which encouraged Malaysians to experience the all-electric MGS5 EV firsthand.
Running from 15 August to 30 September 2026, the campaign invited visitors to MG Motor dealerships nationwide to test drive the MGS5 EV, submit a photograph and share a creative caption describing their driving experience. The initiative combined the patriotic spirit of the national celebrations with an opportunity for prospective buyers to discover the practicality and performance of MG’s electric family SUV. Twenty runners-up were also rewarded, with each receiving RM50 in Touch ‘n Go eWallet credits.
Emory Qi, Managing Director of SAIC Motor Malaysia, said the company was pleased with the response to the campaign, which aimed to give more Malaysians the opportunity to experience the MGS5 EV beyond the showroom floor. “By inviting Malaysians to get behind the wheel of the MGS5 EV, we wanted to give them the opportunity to experience its comfort, practicality and all-electric performance for themselves,” he said. He added that the company hoped these firsthand experiences would encourage more customers to consider the MGS5 EV as their next family SUV.
For grand prize winner Nur Sara ‘Atikah, the MGS5 EV’s appeal lies in how well it accommodates the needs of her family of five while remaining manageable for everyday driving in Kuala Lumpur. As an MGS5 EV owner, she highlighted its spacious cabin, comfortable interior and safety features as key reasons for choosing the electric SUV.
“The MGS5 EV offers the ideal balance of space, comfort and safety for our family of five. It is sized perfectly for Kuala Lumpur driving and parking, yet spacious enough for my three kids,” she said. She also praised the inclusion of physical air-conditioning buttons, which allow drivers to adjust the temperature without having to navigate touchscreen menus. The vehicle’s driver fatigue alerts were another highlight, providing additional reassurance during longer family journeys.
Her experience reflects the campaign’s central message: electric vehicles can offer a practical solution for families looking to make the transition to electric mobility without compromising on everyday usability. Qi said the campaign also provided an opportunity for SAIC Motor Malaysia to strengthen its relationship with customers and recognise the growing MG community. “Through this campaign, we were able to celebrate the spirit of the nation alongside our community and recognise their passion. Congratulations to our grand prize winner and all our runners-up,” he said.
The MGS5 EV sits in the B-segment electric SUV category and is offered in COM and LUX variants, with prices starting from RM103,900. One of its key engineering features is an ultra-thin battery layout designed to maximise cabin space while lowering the vehicle’s centre of gravity. This arrangement helps provide a more spacious interior while supporting vehicle stability.
Safety is another major focus, with every MGS5 EV equipped with seven airbags and the full MG Pilot ADAS 2.5 advanced driver assistance suite. The package is intended to provide additional protection and driver support across different driving conditions. To further strengthen its ownership proposition, the electric SUV comes with a seven-year or 150,000km vehicle warranty, alongside an eight-year or 180,000km battery pack warranty, whichever comes first.
New buyers can also enjoy rebates of RM3,000 for the COM variant or RM11,000 for the LUX variant, together with a complimentary home wallbox charger to make charging more convenient. Interested customers can arrange a booking or test drive at their nearest MG Motor showroom nationwide, or visit www.mgmalaysia.com for further information.
