Proton has given its popular B-segment SUV a sportier makeover with the official launch of the All-New Proton X50 Sport Edition (SE), introducing a collection of 15 exclusive exterior and interior enhancements for buyers who want their SUV to stand out from the crowd. Based on the range-topping Flagship variant, the new Sport Edition adds a more aggressive visual character while retaining the X50’s existing performance, technology and safety equipment.
Rather than introducing a separate vehicle variant, Proton is offering the upgrades as a dedicated styling package priced at just RM1,999 above the standard Flagship model. According to Proton, the package features enhancements worth RM7,000, making it an option for buyers looking for a more distinctive appearance without having to move beyond the X50’s established flagship specification.
Dato’ Ir Abdul Rashid Musa, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Proton, said the Sport Edition reflects the company’s continued efforts to improve the value offered to customers. By building on the Flagship variant, Proton aims to give buyers a sportier and more distinctive version of its best-selling B-segment SUV while preserving the features that have helped establish the X50’s position in the market.
The most noticeable changes to the X50 SE can be found on its exterior, where black styling elements and carefully placed red details give the SUV a more athletic appearance. The black treatment extends across the front upper garnish, front side port trim garnish, lower bumper garnish and rear side port trim garnish. These additions are complemented by black 18-inch alloy wheels and exclusive Sport Edition front, side and rear skirtings. A dedicated Sport Edition emblem completes the exterior package, distinguishing the SE from the standard Flagship model.
The sporty theme continues inside the cabin, where red stitching adds contrast to the steering wheel, armrest, door trims and seats. The front seats also receive Sport Edition embroidery, while exclusive floor detailing, TPE floor mats and Sport Edition metal door scuff plates provide further visual distinction. Beyond the cosmetic changes, Proton has subjected the enhancements to more than 13,700 hours of testing. The programme covers durability, corrosion resistance and ultraviolet (UV) resistance, as well as suitability for Malaysia’s tropical climate. This testing is intended to ensure the styling additions can withstand local driving and environmental conditions, rather than simply looking good in the showroom.
Underneath the additional styling, the X50 SE retains the mechanical package of the Flagship variant. Power comes from Proton’s i-GT 1.5-litre turbocharged engine, producing 181 PS and 290 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT), delivering the same performance specification as the standard Flagship model.
The cabin also retains the Flagship’s technology and connectivity features, including a 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. Drivers can also interact with the vehicle through Proton’s ‘Hi PROTON’ voice command system, while the PROTON Link 2.0 application adds remote access to selected vehicle functions. Safety and driver assistance equipment remain unchanged, with the X50 SE retaining 15 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) features, including Auto Park Assist (APA).
Parking and manoeuvring are further supported by a 360-degree HD camera with 180-degree Transparent View, while the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) helps drivers keep track of tyre pressure. In other words, the Sport Edition focuses on giving the X50 a more distinctive personality without asking buyers to compromise on the equipment available in the Flagship variant.
The PROTON Link 2.0 application provides owners with access to selected vehicle functions through their smartphones, offering additional convenience when managing everyday journeys. The application can display useful information such as vehicle location, fuel level, estimated driving range, vehicle alerts and trip history.
For owners of selected Huawei smartwatches running HarmonyOS, the experience extends to the wrist. Compatible devices can be used to operate several vehicle functions, including starting and stopping the engine, controlling the air-conditioning, locking and unlocking the doors, and operating the power windows. Owners can also access the trunk and activate the horn and lights through the smartwatch, providing another way to interact with the vehicle without reaching for a smartphone.
These connected features are carried over from the Flagship specification, meaning the Sport Edition’s appeal lies in its additional styling rather than a reduction or replacement of existing technology.
The X50 SE comes with the same standard ownership package offered to customers purchasing the Flagship variant. This includes Proton’s Pro-Warranty, which provides a five-year warranty with unlimited mileage, together with free labour for six service visits.
The Pro-Connect package is also included, providing a five-year in-car data subscription with 2GB of data per month. Together, these benefits add to the ownership proposition by combining warranty coverage, servicing support and in-car connectivity with the X50’s existing equipment.
The All-New Proton X50 Sport Edition is available nationwide through authorised Proton dealerships, with the styling package priced at RM1,999 above the standard 1.5TD Flagship variant.
