PRO-NET has handed over three Proton e.MAS vehicles to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) as part of an evaluation to determine how electrified vehicles could fit into the organisation’s fleet and operational requirements. The handover took place at PDRM Headquarters in Bukit Aman on 10 September 2026, with PROTON Deputy Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Ir. Abdul Rashid bin Musa presenting the vehicles to CP Datuk Redzuan bin Abd Hamid, Director of the Department of Logistics and Technology, PDRM.

The evaluation gives PDRM access to three different electrified powertrain configurations: the Proton e.MAS 5 Premium, e.MAS 7 Premium and e.MAS 7 PHEV Premium Plus. Rather than simply conducting conventional test drives, PDRM officers will use the vehicles in real-world conditions to gain a better understanding of their drivability, practicality and charging requirements. This hands-on approach is intended to provide a clearer picture of how EV and plug-in hybrid technology could work within the demands of a large operational fleet.

To complement the programme, Gentari will provide complimentary charging for all three Proton e.MAS vehicles throughout the evaluation period. According to Dato’ Ir. Abdul Rashid, the initiative gives PRO-NET an opportunity to demonstrate its electrified vehicles in an environment that goes beyond a typical showroom or test-drive experience.

He noted that moving a large fleet towards electrification involves more than selecting suitable vehicles, with factors such as daily usage, vehicle performance and charging infrastructure also needing to be considered. For PDRM, the evaluation will allow its officers to experience different types of electrified vehicles while collecting feedback from actual usage. The findings could subsequently help the organisation understand where EV and PHEV technology may be suitable within its fleet.

Among the potential applications are routine operational duties such as crime-prevention patrols, although any future deployment would depend on the outcome of the evaluation and subsequent government considerations. The initiative comes as interest in electrified mobility continues to grow among Malaysian government ministries and agencies. It also highlights the increasing role of Proton e.MAS in Malaysia’s EV landscape, with more than 6,000 vehicles registered as of 31 August 2026.

For PRO-NET, the collaboration with PDRM provides more than an opportunity to place its vehicles in government hands. The real-world feedback gathered during the evaluation could offer useful insight into the needs of institutional and fleet customers as Malaysia continues to explore the transition towards electrified mobility. The three-vehicle evaluation therefore represents another step in understanding how EV and PHEV technology can be adapted to different operational environments, while strengthening cooperation between PRO-NET and PDRM and contributing to the development of Malaysia’s wider electrified mobility ecosystem.
