Proton e.MAS has further strengthened its position at the top of Malaysia’s electric vehicle (EV) market, capturing more than 60% of domestic EV registrations between January and August 2026. The national EV brand recorded 27,403 domestic registrations during the first eight months of the year, maintaining its position as Malaysia’s No. 1 EV brand. Its performance was driven by strong demand across its growing model line-up, with the e.MAS 5 leading the overall EV segment, the e.MAS 7 retaining its position as the country’s No. 1 EV SUV, and the e.MAS 7 PHEV continuing to lead the plug-in hybrid segment.

The latest achievement follows an equally significant milestone for Proton e.MAS, which recently surpassed 6,000 registrations in a single month for the first time. For the year to date, Proton e.MAS has recorded 27,856 total registrations, including both domestic and export volumes. This comprises 18,014 units of the e.MAS 5, 4,278 units of the e.MAS 7 and 5,562 units of the e.MAS 7 PHEV from the domestic market.

Together, these figures give Proton e.MAS a 32.5% share of Malaysia’s overall xEV market, while its domestic EV registrations translate into approximately 60% of the country’s EV market. According to PRO-NET Chief Executive Officer Zhang Qiang, the achievement goes beyond market leadership, highlighting the increasing confidence among Malaysian motorists in electrified mobility. “Achieving more than 60% market share is a significant milestone for Proton e.MAS, but more importantly it reflects Malaysians’ growing confidence in electrified mobility,” said Zhang.

He added that PRO-NET’s focus extends beyond simply increasing the number of EVs on Malaysian roads, with the company continuing to develop the wider ecosystem required to support long-term EV adoption. This includes expanding charging accessibility, strengthening aftersales capabilities, developing local talent and increasing localisation in support of Malaysia’s Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint (LCMB) and National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR).

With more Proton e.MAS vehicles now on Malaysian roads, PRO-NET is also expanding the infrastructure and support network surrounding the brand. Proton e.MAS currently has a nationwide network comprising 60 dealerships, 46 authorised service centres and 10 Body & Paint facilities, providing customers with access to sales, maintenance and aftersales services across the country.

Charging convenience is also being addressed through the brand’s Integrated Live Charging Map, which is available through every Proton e.MAS vehicle as well as the Proton e.MAS App. The system provides access to information covering more than 4,700 charging points nationwide, representing over 90% of Malaysia’s public charging infrastructure.

For EV owners living in high-rise residences, PRO-NET has also partnered with ChargeSini, JomCharge, Charge+, Time Charge N Go and RExharge to improve access to residential charging. Through these collaborations, Proton e.MAS owners can enjoy a special charging rate of RM0.63/kWh until 31 December 2026, covering more than 1,500 charging points across over 500 participating high-rise residences nationwide.

The growth of Proton e.MAS is also being supported by increasing local manufacturing and technical capabilities. All Proton e.MAS models and variants are now locally assembled (CKD) at PROTON’s EV plant in the Automotive High Tech Valley (AHTV), Tanjong Malim. Beyond strengthening Malaysia’s EV manufacturing capabilities, the move is intended to support skilled employment and contribute to the development of the local EV supply chain.

PRO-NET is simultaneously investing in the people needed to support the expanding EV population. In August 2026, 37 technicians from 25 authorised dealerships achieved Level 2 EV certification through TVETMARA, adding to the pool of locally trained EV specialists. Technical development is further supported by the e.MAS Certified Technician Programme (e.CTP) and e.MAS Certified Service Advisor Programme (e.CSA).

The company has also introduced the inaugural e.MAS Electrified Excellence Competition, bringing technicians and service advisors from 45 dealerships together to further develop their skills and expertise. For customers, aftersales readiness is reinforced by parts availability, with 98.8% of common spare parts currently available across the authorised Proton e.MAS network.

With Proton e.MAS continuing to gain ground in Malaysia, the brand’s growing market share is increasingly being backed by a broader ecosystem covering charging, servicing, local manufacturing and workforce development. The strategy reflects PRO-NET’s ambition to make EV ownership more accessible and practical, while strengthening the foundations needed for Malaysia’s transition towards electrified mobility.

As the country works towards its wider sustainability and energy-transition targets under the NETR and LCMB, Proton e.MAS is positioning itself not merely as an EV manufacturer, but as a key contributor to the development of Malaysia’s wider electric mobility ecosystem.
