Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) has expanded its premium SUV line-up with the introduction of the all-new Volkswagen Tayron R-Line, which takes the position as the flagship variant of the brand’s new seven-seat SUV.
Priced from RM237,490, the Tayron R-Line combines a more powerful engine, 4MOTION all-wheel drive, sportier styling and a comprehensive suite of comfort and technology features. With the Volkswagen Assurance Package (VAP), which includes five years of free maintenance, five years of manufacturer’s warranty and five years of roadside assistance, the price rises to RM250,074.
Positioned between the Tiguan and Touareg, the Tayron is designed to appeal to growing families and professionals who require greater practicality without compromising on performance and premium features. Like the Tayron Elegance, the R-Line is locally assembled at Volkswagen’s plant in Pekan.
The biggest difference between the R-Line and the more comfort-oriented Elegance is found under the bonnet. The Tayron R-Line is powered by a 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine producing 265PS and 400Nm of torque. Power is sent through a seven-speed DSG transmission to Volkswagen’s intelligent 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system. The combination gives the R-Line stronger acceleration while providing additional traction and stability across different road and weather conditions.
Adding to its dynamic character is Volkswagen’s Dynamic Chassis Control Pro (DCC Pro), featuring electronically controlled two-valve dampers that continuously adjust according to road conditions and driving style. This allows the Tayron R-Line to balance ride comfort during everyday driving with sharper responses when tackling more demanding roads.
Visually, the R-Line adopts a more athletic interpretation of Volkswagen’s latest SUV design language. Up front, the SUV features IQ.Light HD Matrix headlights with glare-free high-beam technology, accompanied by an illuminated Volkswagen emblem that gives the Tayron a distinctive lighting signature.
R-Line-specific styling elements are also incorporated into the front and rear bumpers, as well as the side profile, giving the seven-seater a more purposeful appearance. Illuminated Volkswagen logos at both ends further enhance its premium character. At the rear, 3D LED taillights with dynamic turn signals complement the sculpted bodywork, while the SUV’s precise body lines and tight panel gaps reinforce its upmarket positioning.
Despite its sportier focus, Volkswagen has not compromised on passenger comfort. The Tayron R-Line comes equipped with Varenna leather ergoActive Plus front seats, featuring 12-way electric adjustment, heating, ventilation and a 10-air-cushion pneumatic massage function. The ventilated seats should also prove particularly useful in Malaysia’s warm climate.
For those who enjoy their music, the cabin features a Harman Kardon audio system with 10 speakers and a dedicated subwoofer, delivering 700 watts of output through a 16-channel digital amplifier.
Practicality remains a key strength of the Tayron. Its seven-seat configuration features 40:20:40 split-folding second-row seats and 50:50 split-folding third-row seats. With both rear rows folded, luggage capacity expands to as much as 1,905 litres. Loading is further simplified by the Easy Open & Close hands-free tailgate, making the Tayron suitable for everything from daily family duties to longer road trips.
The R-Line also receives Volkswagen’s latest digital technology package. At the centre of the dashboard is a large 15-inch Discover Pro Max infotainment display running the latest MIB4 software. Wireless App-Connect provides compatibility with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The driver gets a 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro display, while a head-up display projects important information such as vehicle speed, navigation directions and driver-assistance alerts directly onto the windscreen.
Other technology highlights include Volkswagen’s IDA voice assistant and a new Centre Console Multi-Function Control. The rotary controller provides convenient access to functions including driving modes, ambient lighting and audio settings.
The Tayron R-Line is also equipped with Volkswagen’s latest-generation IQ.DRIVE suite of driver assistance systems. Among the key safety and assistance features are Travel Assist with Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Assist, Lane Change System Side Assist, Rear Traffic Alert with Exit Warning, and Front Assist with pedestrian and cyclist monitoring.
The SUV also comes with Park Assist Plus with Park Distance Control, Emergency Assist, a Proactive Passenger Protection System and a Driver Attention Monitor. Occupant protection is further supported by nine airbags, including a front-centre airbag.
The all-new Volkswagen Tayron R-Line will be available for viewing at authorised Volkswagen dealerships nationwide from 13 August 2026, with a special showroom event taking place from 14 to 16 August.
Customers can also view both the Tayron Elegance and R-Line at the Volkswagen Tour at 1 Utama Shopping Centre, LUXE, Ground Floor, which runs until 31 August 2026.
