Dunlop is reinforcing its commitment to the Malaysian market through an aggressive expansion strategy that combines a growing dealer network, an enhanced tyre lineup, and continued investment in technologies designed for the next generation of mobility.

The tyre manufacturer has recorded significant growth in its retail presence, expanding its nationwide dealer network by more than 30% in just a few months. Since May 2026, the number of authorised Dunlop outlets has increased from around 150 to over 200 locations across Malaysia, strengthening accessibility for motorists while reflecting growing confidence among dealers and automotive service partners.

The latest expansion builds upon a legacy that stretches back more than six decades. In 1963, Dunlop became the first tyre manufacturer to establish local production in Malaysia, helping shape the country’s tyre industry and earning a reputation as one of the nation’s most recognised automotive brands.

Today, Dunlop operates in Malaysia under Toyotsu Binter Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., supported by the technological and engineering expertise of Sumitomo Rubber Industries. The company is now focused on making premium tyre technology more accessible while strengthening its position in a market where consumers increasingly prioritise safety, performance and value.

According to Marcus Lim, Managing Director of Toyotsu Binter Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., Malaysia remains a strategic market with strong long-term growth potential.

He noted that modern motorists are seeking tyres that offer quality, safety and performance without sacrificing affordability. As a result, Dunlop aims to position itself as an emerging premium brand by bringing advanced tyre technologies within reach of a broader range of Malaysian drivers.

Beyond increasing the number of retail outlets, Dunlop’s growth strategy also focuses on expanding customer accessibility through multiple sales and service channels. The company intends to strengthen its presence across traditional tyre dealers, automotive service centres and future retail platforms while fostering long-term partnerships throughout Malaysia’s automotive aftermarket ecosystem.

To support these ambitions, Dunlop has expanded its product portfolio to address the needs of different vehicle segments. The current range includes the Blue Response TG for everyday passenger vehicles, the SP Sport Maxx 060+ for motorists seeking greater performance and handling capabilities, and the Grandtrek R/T01 for SUV and pickup truck owners. Looking ahead, the company is preparing to introduce the e.Sport Maxx, a tyre specifically developed to meet the unique demands of electric vehicles.

Dunlop’s role in Malaysia extends beyond the replacement tyre market. The brand continues to supply original equipment (OE) tyres for selected models from leading automotive manufacturers including Toyota, Lexus, Isuzu, Mazda and Leapmotor. These collaborations underscore the trust vehicle manufacturers place in Dunlop’s engineering expertise, product quality and reliability.

Recognising the stringent demands of OEM programmes, Toyotsu Binter Malaysia and Sumitomo Rubber Industries remain committed to maintaining high standards in product quality, supply chain consistency and customer support. By working closely with vehicle manufacturers, the companies aim to ensure uninterrupted supply while further strengthening longstanding industry relationships.

As Malaysia’s automotive landscape evolves with the growing adoption of hybrid and electric vehicles, Dunlop continues to develop tyre solutions that cater to internal combustion engine (ICE), hybrid and EV owners alike. The company’s focus remains on delivering products that enhance safety, comfort, durability and overall driving confidence.

Takehiko Asai, Managing Director of Sumitomo Rubber Asia (Tyre) Pte. Ltd., highlighted that innovation remains central to Dunlop’s global vision. He explained that the company is investing heavily in next-generation tyre technologies designed to improve energy efficiency, wet-weather performance, rolling resistance and cabin refinement, while also exploring intelligent tyre systems that could play a role in future connected and electrified mobility ecosystems.

These developments, he said, are a continuation of the innovative spirit that has defined the Dunlop brand for more than 130 years.
