Proton is reinforcing its role in national development by supporting Malaysia’s efforts to modernise public transportation through its participation in the Program Pembaharuan Teksi MADANI Nasional, a government-led initiative aimed at revitalising the country’s taxi fleet and improving the overall mobility experience for passengers.

For decades, Proton has been more than an automotive manufacturer. Guided by its “Inspiring Connections” brand philosophy, the national carmaker has consistently focused on strengthening communities, supporting economic growth and contributing to Malaysia’s industrial progress. Its involvement in the national taxi renewal programme reflects this ongoing commitment.

Spearheaded by the Ministry of Transport, the programme seeks to replace ageing public mobility vehicles with a new generation of modern, safer and more efficient models. Beyond fleet replacement, the initiative is designed to enhance travel experiences for commuters, visitors and drivers while fostering greater confidence in Malaysia’s public transportation system.

The programme also aligns with the broader goals of Malaysia MADANI by creating improved income opportunities for public transport operators. At the same time, it complements the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 campaign by ensuring visitors encounter a modern and reliable transportation network that reflects the nation’s progress and hospitality.

Selected to support the initiative is the Proton S70, a sedan engineered to meet the rigorous demands of commercial mobility services. Combining comfort, practicality and efficiency, the model is well-suited to the needs of drivers who spend extended hours on the road as well as passengers seeking a comfortable journey.

The S70 offers a spacious interior with ample legroom and rear-seat comfort, making it suitable for both short city trips and longer-distance travel. Its generous boot capacity further enhances convenience, particularly for airport transfers and family travel.

Under the bonnet, the sedan is powered by a turbocharged engine that delivers a balance of responsive performance and fuel efficiency, helping operators manage running costs without compromising capability. Supported by Proton’s extensive nationwide after-sales network, the vehicle also offers dependable reliability and reduced downtime, important factors for high-mileage operations.

In addition, the S70 is equipped with advanced safety features and intelligent connectivity technologies that meet the expectations of today’s passengers while supporting the programme’s objective of raising service standards across the public mobility sector.

Eligible operators participating in the programme will have access to a specially configured Proton S70 Premium variant designed specifically for public mobility applications. Finished exclusively in Ruby Red, the vehicle includes equipment required for licensed public transport operations.

Government incentives combined with Proton’s own support measures are expected to make fleet renewal more affordable for qualified operators. Participation is open only to applicants who meet the eligibility requirements established by the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD), including possession of the necessary operating permits. Further information is available through Proton dealerships nationwide.

As a locally assembled model developed with substantial Malaysian engineering, manufacturing and supply chain involvement, the Proton S70 contributes directly to employment opportunities, vendor development, technology advancement and the growth of the domestic automotive industry.

Its selection for the programme highlights the ability of Malaysian-made vehicles to compete with international brands while delivering the quality, technology and refinement expected by modern consumers.

Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Proton, Abdul Rashid Musa, said the company’s role extends beyond vehicle production to supporting national progress.

“For more than four decades, Proton has grown together with Malaysia, and we believe our responsibility goes beyond manufacturing cars. We are committed to contributing to national development, strengthening local industries and improving mobility for Malaysians,” he said.

He added that the Program Pembaharuan Teksi MADANI Nasional demonstrates the positive outcomes that can be achieved when government and industry collaborate toward a shared objective.

“The selection of the Proton S70 is a testament to the confidence placed in Malaysian engineering, manufacturing expertise and the quality of our products. The model delivers the comfort, efficiency, safety and reliability required for intensive daily use while proving that a Malaysian automotive brand is capable of meeting world-class standards,” he said.
