Proton has achieved its strongest first-half sales performance in 15 years, crossing the 100,000-unit mark before the midpoint of 2026 and reinforcing its position as one of Malaysia’s leading automotive brands. The milestone highlights robust demand for both the company’s traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and its rapidly expanding new energy vehicle (NEV) portfolio under the Proton e.MAS brand.
With 16,052 vehicles delivered in June alone, Proton’s total group sales for the first six months of the year reached 100,346 units. This represents a significant 39.1% increase compared to the same period in 2025 and marks the company’s best first-half performance since 2011. The achievement places Proton firmly on track toward its ambitious goal of selling 200,000 vehicles by the end of the year.
Despite the growing popularity of electrified vehicles, Proton’s ICE lineup remains a major contributor to its success. Several models continue to dominate their respective segments, demonstrating the enduring appeal of the brand’s core offerings.
The Proton Saga remains the company’s top-selling model, with 7,000 units delivered in June. Total sales for the year have climbed to 44,375 units, representing a 40% increase over the same period last year.
The Proton S70 has further strengthened its standing as Malaysia’s best-selling C-segment sedan. June deliveries reached 2,307 units, bringing year-to-date sales to 12,832 units, up 37.3% from 2025.
Meanwhile, the Proton X50 continues to lead the B-segment SUV category and remains the country’s top-selling SUV overall. The model recorded 2,378 deliveries in June and accumulated 15,345 units in the first half of the year, reflecting growth of 35.1%.
The refreshed Proton X90 also maintained its leadership in the D-segment seven-seater SUV market. With 388 units delivered in June, sales are running 50% higher than during the corresponding period last year.
According to Dato’ Ir. Abdul Rashid Musa, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Proton, surpassing the 100,000-unit milestone ahead of the year’s halfway point is a significant achievement that reflects strong consumer confidence in the company’s products and brand.
He noted that growth has been driven by demand across multiple vehicle segments, with conventional models continuing to perform strongly while Proton e.MAS expands rapidly, allowing the company to cater to customers at different stages of their mobility transition.
Proton’s electrification strategy is proving equally successful, with the Proton e.MAS brand emerging as a major growth engine. During the first half of 2026, deliveries of Proton e.MAS vehicles reached 17,920 units, representing a remarkable 321% increase compared to the same period last year.
The locally assembled Proton e.MAS 5 remains Malaysia’s best-selling electric vehicle. June deliveries totalled 1,436 units, bringing cumulative sales to 10,793 units for the year.
The Proton e.MAS 7, which is produced at the company’s dedicated NEV assembly facility in Tanjung Malim, contributed 659 units in June and has achieved 3,053 cumulative deliveries.
Meanwhile, the Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV has rapidly become Malaysia’s most popular plug-in hybrid vehicle. Introduced in February, the model has now recorded three consecutive months of more than 1,000 deliveries. June sales reached 1,138 units, pushing year-to-date volume to 4,074 units.
PRO-NET Chief Executive Officer Zhang Qiang said consumer response to the Proton e.MAS lineup has exceeded expectations as more Malaysians embrace electrified mobility. He attributed the strong demand to competitive ownership costs, expanding charging infrastructure and the continued growth of the brand’s dealer network.
Building on its strongest first-half performance in over a decade, Proton enters the second half of 2026 with considerable momentum. The company plans to further increase production capacity to shorten delivery times while continuing to enhance customer experiences through improvements to its dealership network.
Proton is also expected to introduce additional new products following the showcase of next-generation technologies and future models at KLIMS 2026. With strong performances from both its ICE and electrified vehicle ranges, the company remains focused on reaching its target of 200,000 vehicle sales by year-end.
As Malaysia’s automotive landscape continues to evolve, Proton’s balanced approach—combining established ICE models with a rapidly growing NEV portfolio—appears to be positioning the brand for sustained success in the years ahead.
