As electric vehicle (EV) adoption continues to gain momentum in Malaysia, Proton e.MAS is strengthening its commitment to making EV ownership more practical and accessible, particularly for residents living in condominiums and high-rise developments. Through its growing charging ecosystem, PRO-NET, a wholly owned subsidiary of Proton Holdings Berhad, is addressing one of the most significant challenges faced by urban EV owners: convenient access to charging facilities at home.
To support this effort, Proton e.MAS owners can now benefit from exclusive residential charging rates starting from RM0.63 per kWh when using participating charging facilities through the Proton e.MAS App. This special rate, available until 31 December 2026, offers a cost-effective solution that makes charging at home both convenient and affordable.
According to PRO-NET Chief Executive Officer Zhang Qiang, EV charging infrastructure must evolve to accommodate different living environments as more Malaysians embrace sustainable transportation. By expanding access to residential charging and offering attractive rates, the company aims to make electric mobility a practical choice for everyday users.
The Proton e.MAS charging ecosystem has grown significantly, now encompassing more than 1,500 charging points located across over 500 participating condominiums and high-rise residential developments nationwide. The network spans key urban centres including the Klang Valley, Penang, and Johor, while also extending to Sabah, Sarawak, and other major cities throughout the country.
This expansion is particularly beneficial for residents of non-landed properties who may not have the option of installing private home wall chargers. By bringing charging facilities directly into residential communities, Proton e.MAS is helping to eliminate a major obstacle to EV ownership among urban dwellers.
Central to the initiative is the Proton e.MAS App, which integrates charging services into a single digital platform. Through the app, users can locate available chargers, initiate charging sessions, complete payments, and manage their charging activities without the need for multiple third-party applications. The streamlined experience reflects the brand’s broader strategy of combining connectivity, charging solutions, and ownership services into one ecosystem.
Using the residential charging network is straightforward. Owners simply access the charging map through the Proton e.MAS App, select a charging station within their residential area, choose the appropriate connector, complete the pre-authorisation process, and begin charging. The entire session can then be monitored and managed directly through the application.
Beyond convenience, the initiative also offers significant financial benefits. Proton e.MAS estimates that drivers can reduce their monthly energy expenses by more than 30 percent compared to operating conventional petrol-powered vehicles, further enhancing the appeal of EV ownership.
The company believes that integrating charging access into everyday residential environments will help reduce reliance on public charging infrastructure while providing greater flexibility for EV users. As Malaysia moves towards a more sustainable transportation future, initiatives such as these play a vital role in building a comprehensive and scalable EV ecosystem.
In addition to accessing existing charging locations, Proton e.MAS owners and interested residents can use the platform to explore charging availability in their communities and register interest for future charging infrastructure installations. This ongoing expansion demonstrates Proton e.MAS’ dedication to supporting the evolving needs of Malaysian EV drivers while accelerating the nation’s transition towards cleaner and more sustainable mobility.
