The Mazda Malaysia Vendors’ Association (MMVA) has voiced its strong endorsement of the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry’s (MITI) latest strategic direction for the national automotive industry, highlighting the importance of localisation, skills development, and long-term industrial sustainability as key pillars for future growth.
As Malaysia’s automotive sector undergoes a major transformation driven by electrification, emerging technologies, and intensifying global competition, MITI’s updated framework for Completely Built-Up (CBU) electric vehicles is seen as a timely initiative. The policy aims to encourage greater local participation, foster technology transfer, and attract meaningful investments from international automotive manufacturers, ultimately strengthening the country’s manufacturing capabilities.
For the network of suppliers and vendors supporting Mazda’s operations in Malaysia, the government’s emphasis on localisation closely aligns with ongoing efforts to develop a more capable and competitive domestic supply chain. MMVA noted that localisation has long been a cornerstone of Mazda’s manufacturing philosophy, where quality craftsmanship reflects the expertise, dedication, and advancement of local talent.
According to the association, policies that encourage foreign automakers to establish local assembly operations and invest in technology sharing will create valuable opportunities for Malaysian vendors. Such initiatives are expected to enhance technical expertise, elevate workforce capabilities, and improve the global competitiveness of local automotive suppliers as the industry transitions into the electric vehicle era.
MMVA believes that MITI’s direction provides a clear roadmap for industry players to participate more actively in the next phase of automotive development. By promoting deeper industrial collaboration and encouraging long-term investment, the policy supports the creation of a stronger and more resilient automotive ecosystem within the country.
The association also reaffirmed its commitment to working alongside automotive manufacturers, including Mazda Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., in expanding localisation efforts that are aligned with national industrial objectives. In addition, MMVA expressed appreciation for MITI’s continued engagement with industry stakeholders and its proactive approach to shaping a future-ready automotive sector.
With Malaysia accelerating its journey towards electrified mobility, MMVA remains committed to contributing to an industry that is innovative, competitive, and sustainable. Through collaboration between government, automakers, and local suppliers, the association believes the nation is well-positioned to build a robust automotive ecosystem capable of meeting the challenges and opportunities of the future.
