Michelin has taken a significant step forward in addressing evolving automotive trends by extending its highly regarded MICHELIN Primacy 5 tyre line to include sport utility vehicles (SUVs). This latest expansion reflects the growing dominance of SUVs and the accelerating adoption of electric vehicles (EVs), ensuring that more drivers can benefit from the tyre’s well-established reputation for comfort, safety, and durability.

With the introduction of SUV-compatible variants, the MICHELIN Primacy 5 range now caters to both internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and EVs. The extension adds 34 new fitments, covering wheel sizes from 16 to 22 inches, giving motorists a wider selection tailored to diverse driving requirements and vehicle types.

According to Florentin Odenwald, the move comes at a pivotal moment for the Malaysian automotive landscape. SUVs, once a niche segment, have surged from just 11% of total vehicle sales in 2010 to an impressive 42% in 2025. At the same time, EV adoption continues to gain momentum, reshaping consumer expectations for efficiency and performance.

The SUV-focused MICHELIN Primacy 5 builds upon the model’s global acclaim for outstanding wet grip and long-lasting performance. It has also earned industry recognition, including the 2025 Auto Magazine Best Tire Award and top honours in Tekniikan Maailma’s 2025 Summer Tyre Test.

Engineered for real-world conditions, the new SUV variant features reinforced sidewalls to improve durability and resistance against road impacts. Independent testing further validates its capabilities, highlighting a combination of comfort, safety, and longevity that remains consistent with the Primacy 5’s core strengths.

Drivers can expect a refined driving experience thanks to MICHELIN Silent Rib Gen-3 technology, which minimizes cabin noise and enhances ride comfort. Safety remains a key highlight, with a 16% shorter wet braking distance—whether the tyre is new or worn—supported by advanced technologies such as EverGrip and EverTread. Additionally, MaxTouch technology optimizes road contact to ensure even wear and extended tread life.

Importantly, the tyre is also designed with EV compatibility in mind. A specially developed tread compound reduces rolling resistance by 10%, helping to improve energy efficiency and extend battery range—an increasingly critical factor for electric vehicle owners.

In Malaysia, the expanded MICHELIN Primacy 5 lineup is now available in 76 sizes through authorized dealers nationwide. Prices range from RM467 to RM1,639, making the premium tyre accessible to a broad spectrum of SUV drivers.

By broadening the Primacy 5 offering, Michelin reinforces its commitment to innovation and adaptability, ensuring it stays ahead of shifting market demands while delivering a balanced blend of performance, comfort, and sustainability.
