Proton is marking the sixth anniversary of the X50 with the introduction of the All-New Proton X50 Sport Edition (SE), a special edition based on the flagship variant and enhanced with 15 exclusive exterior and interior upgrades. First launched in Malaysia on 27 October 2020, the Proton X50 has gone on to become one of the national carmaker’s most successful models, recording more than 177,000 units in cumulative domestic and export sales. It has also maintained its position as Malaysia’s best-selling B-segment SUV for five consecutive years.
The new X50 SE builds on that established foundation with a more aggressive appearance, combining predominantly black exterior elements with contrasting red highlights to give the SUV a sportier personality. The exterior receives a comprehensive visual makeover, starting with a range of black-finished components including the Black Front Upper Garnish, Black Front Side Port Trim Garnish, Black Lower Bumper Garnish and Black Rear Side Port Trim Garnish. The sporty treatment is further enhanced by black 18-inch alloy wheels, dedicated front, side and rear skirtings, and an exclusive Sport Edition emblem.
Inside, the X50 SE continues the theme with a predominantly black cabin accented by red stitching on the steering wheel and seats. The front seats also receive Sport Edition embroidery, while matching Sport Edition detailing is incorporated into the floor. Adding a practical touch, the SE comes with TPE floor mats, which are lightweight, flexible and quick-drying – characteristics suited to Malaysia’s often wet and humid conditions.
While the X50 SE is designed to stand out, Proton says the special edition’s additional components have also been developed with everyday durability in mind. The SE enhancements have undergone more than 13,700 hours of testing, covering durability, corrosion resistance, UV resistance and suitability for Malaysia’s tropical climate. This extensive validation is intended to ensure the additional styling components can withstand prolonged exposure to the conditions encountered by Malaysian drivers, rather than simply serving as cosmetic additions.
Underneath the Sport Edition treatment is the proven mechanical package from the flagship X50 variant. Power comes from Proton’s i-GT 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine, producing 181 PS and 290 Nm, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The combination allows the X50 to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds, while claimed fuel consumption stands at 6.1 litres/100 km.
The X50 SE also retains the model’s technology package, including a 14.6-inch infotainment head unit with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Proton Link 2.0 and ‘Hi Proton’ voice commands in Bahasa Melayu and English. Safety technology remains comprehensive, with 15 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) features. These include Auto Park Assist and a 360-degree HD camera with 180-degree Transparent View, among other intelligent driving assistance functions.
For Proton, the X50 SE represents another evolution of a model that has played a major role in the company’s SUV success. Rather than changing the formula underneath, the special edition focuses on giving the X50 a stronger visual identity while retaining the performance, connectivity and safety features that have made it a familiar choice among Malaysian SUV buyers. Bookings for the All-New Proton X50 Sport Edition are now open at all authorised Proton dealers nationwide.
