Buying a car is only the beginning of the financial commitment, with scheduled maintenance, replacement parts and servicing expenses all adding to the cost of ownership. Recognising this, Proton is strengthening the long-term value of the All-New Saga and Proton S70 by combining competitive maintenance costs with a wider aftersales network and improved service efficiency. According to a study conducted by Proton’s After Sales team, both sedans offer competitive scheduled servicing expenses over five and 10 years, helping owners manage their motoring budgets beyond the initial purchase.

The study takes into account scheduled maintenance items, prescribed replacements, labour charges and applicable taxes, based on a distance of 100,000km over five years and 200,000km over 10 years. Complimentary labour benefits also contribute to the savings, although customers will still need to pay for parts, lubricants and other applicable items.

For buyers considering the naturally aspirated Proton S70, the cost of keeping the sedan maintained is a key part of its overall value proposition. The model records an estimated five-year scheduled maintenance cost of RM4,010.59. This is approximately RM1,591 less than the leading non-national B-segment competitor included in Proton’s comparison, while also undercutting another recently launched rival by around RM433.

The savings become more significant over a longer ownership period. Over 10 years, the naturally aspirated S70 is estimated to cost RM9,070.09 to maintain, representing savings of approximately RM2,191 and RM1,252 against the two competing models. The turbocharged S70 also presents a competitive ownership proposition. Its estimated five-year maintenance cost is approximately RM1,076 lower than one rival, while costing just RM83 more than the other.

Over 10 years, the turbocharged S70 is estimated to deliver maintenance savings of approximately RM1,575 and RM629 against the respective competitors. These figures offer an additional consideration for buyers who want stronger performance without overlooking the costs associated with long-term ownership. Both S70 variants benefit from six complimentary labour services under the provisions assessed in the study, helping reduce servicing expenses throughout the relevant ownership period.

For first-time car buyers and families seeking practical everyday transport, the All-New Proton Saga aims to keep running costs manageable alongside its purchase price. Scheduled maintenance for the Saga starts from approximately RM3,357 over five years. According to Proton’s study, both the four-speed automatic and CVT variants record lower maintenance costs than the national-brand benchmark used for comparison.

The four-speed automatic version offers estimated savings of around RM174 over five years, while the CVT variant is approximately RM64 cheaper to maintain over the same period. Three complimentary labour services further help reduce servicing expenses during the early years of ownership. While the savings may appear modest compared with those of the S70, they provide an additional benefit for buyers who need to keep household transport costs under control.

Proton’s ownership strategy also extends beyond competitive maintenance pricing, with continued investment in parts availability, workshop accessibility and service efficiency. In East Malaysia, the company’s Regional Parts Centres in Kuching and Kota Kinabalu support the distribution of aftersales parts and components. By bringing supplies closer to workshops, these facilities help support the servicing needs of Proton owners across Sabah and Sarawak.

The company is also expanding the convenience offered by its integrated 3S and 4S network. As of June 2026, Proton had 178 such facilities nationwide, bringing vehicle sales, servicing and spare parts under one roof. Its 4S centres additionally provide Body and Paint services. To improve the customer experience, Proton’s Faster & Better initiative focuses on three commitments: FS90 Fast Service, 1 Day Service Delivery and a Work-In-Progress target of no more than three days. The programme is designed to improve workshop efficiency and reduce the time customers spend waiting for their vehicles to be serviced.

“As sales of Proton vehicles grow, our customers want to know their vehicle will remain affordable to maintain and that dependable support is within reach. Our focus is on combining competitive servicing costs with trained technicians, genuine parts and convenient access to our authorised network. Together, these help customers plan their maintenance spending and enjoy greater confidence throughout ownership,” said Wan Hazran Wan Mustafa, Director of After Sales.

Customers can obtain model-specific maintenance schedules, servicing quotations and details of complimentary labour eligibility from authorised Proton service centres.
