Hyundai Motor Malaysia (HMY) has officially launched the new STARGAZER in Malaysia, bringing a fresh take on the family MPV with a focus on flexibility, comfort, technology and safety. Rather than simply positioning it as another people carrier, Hyundai is calling the STARGAZER “The WEhicle” – a name that reflects its focus on the realities of modern family life.

After all, a family car is rarely used just for getting from point A to point B. It is the car for school runs, grocery trips, weekend getaways, picking up the kids, transporting grandparents and, inevitably, finding space for that one extra passenger who was not part of the original plan. Hyundai says the STARGAZER has been designed around precisely these everyday situations.

The new STARGAZER combines Hyundai’s distinctive styling with a practical cabin designed to adapt to different family needs. Rather than focusing purely on how much space is available, Hyundai has paid attention to how that space is used. The cabin features flexible seating, multiple storage solutions and several convenience features aimed at making everyday family life a little easier.

Among these are a cargo floor box with lid, seat-back table and multiple USB ports, giving passengers more places to store and charge their everyday essentials. The STARGAZER X takes the flexibility theme further with a floating centre console featuring a detachable tray. Depending on the variant, buyers can also choose between a conventional seven-seat 2+3+2 arrangement or the STARGAZER X’s more premium six-seat 2+2+2 configuration with captain chairs.

According to Hyundai Motor Malaysia Managing Director Ms. Jahabarnisa Haja Mohideen, the STARGAZER was engineered around what modern families value most, including smart use of space, accessible premium comfort and safety.

Family cars spend plenty of time navigating busy city roads, school zones and highways, so safety naturally plays an important role in the STARGAZER. Hyundai’s SmartSense suite of advanced driver assistance systems is available on the higher-spec variants, with ADAS 2.0 features including Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist and Lane Following Assist.

These systems are designed to provide additional assistance to the driver, whether negotiating urban traffic or settling into a long highway drive. The STARGAZER Prime also gets six airbags, providing additional protection for occupants.

Hyundai has also paid attention to passenger comfort, with roof-mounted rear air-conditioning vents helping keep the cabin cool. Selected variants receive dual 10.25-inch displays, while other available features include wireless charging and an Electronic Parking Brake with Auto Hold. In other words, the STARGAZER is designed to keep the entire family comfortable – not just the person sitting behind the steering wheel.

While practicality remains at the heart of the STARGAZER, Hyundai has given the model a distinctive appearance that moves away from the traditional MPV formula. The STARGAZER adopts a more futuristic and expressive design, giving it a stronger visual identity in a segment where many models tend to prioritise practicality above all else.

For buyers looking for something with a little more attitude, there is the STARGAZER X. The range-topping variant receives SUV-inspired styling with sportier front and rear bumpers, a sporty rear spoiler, black Hyundai emblems and black gloss alloy wheels. Inside, its six-seat captain-chair configuration and full leatherette seats give it a more premium character. The STARGAZER X also features Shift-By-Wire transmission control, adding to its more modern cabin experience.

Hyundai Motor Malaysia is offering the new STARGAZER in three variants, giving buyers several options depending on their needs and budget. The range starts with the STARGAZER Style, priced at RM99,800. It comes with a seven-seat 2+3+2 configuration, LED headlamps with H-signature daytime running lights, an 8-inch multimedia player, a 4.2-inch TFT LCD Meter Colour Cluster and 16-inch alloy wheels.

Next is the STARGAZER Prime, priced at RM109,800. This variant adds dual 10.25-inch displays, Hyundai SmartSense ADAS 2.0 and six airbags. At the top of the range is the STARGAZER X, priced at RM121,800. Along with its SUV-inspired exterior, it gets the 2+2+2 captain-chair layout, full leatherette seats and Shift-By-Wire transmission control.

Malaysian Pricing

Hyundai is also attempting to make the STARGAZER more attractive beyond the showroom by offering several ownership incentives. During the launch period, customers can purchase an Early Bird Value Package for RM4,600, inclusive of the RM88 booking fee. The package includes eight times or four years of free after-sales service.

Existing Hyundai owners can also receive an additional RM1,000 rebate through the All-Star Reward programme when purchasing a new STARGAZER. New owners will receive Hyundai’s myHyundaiCare warranty programme, providing coverage for up to eight years or 160,000km.

But perhaps the most interesting part of the ownership package is Hyundai’s new STARGAZER Resale Value Protection (RVP) Programme. The programme guarantees a predetermined resale value when owners upgrade to a new Hyundai vehicle, with the guaranteed value depending on the vehicle’s age and mileage. Customers can upgrade their STARGAZER at:

• 70% in the third year, with up to 60,000km
• 60% in the fourth year, with up to 80,000km
• 50% in the fifth year, with up to 100,000km

This gives buyers another factor to consider when calculating the STARGAZER’s longer-term ownership costs.

With the new STARGAZER, Hyundai is clearly looking beyond the traditional idea of what an MPV should be. It still needs to carry people, luggage and all the other things that somehow accumulate during a family trip. But Hyundai is adding technology, safety equipment, flexible seating and a more distinctive design to the formula.

And perhaps that is where the “WEhicle” idea makes sense. The STARGAZER is not designed around just the driver, or even a single type of passenger. Instead, it is intended to adapt to the many people, situations and unexpected moments that come with family life.

Families in Malaysia will get their first opportunity to experience the new STARGAZER at Hyundai dealerships nationwide on 26 and 27 September, where customers can take the “WEhicle” for a test drive and participate in various family-oriented activities. With prices starting at RM99,800, the new STARGAZER enters Malaysia’s MPV market with plenty to prove – but Hyundai is clearly hoping that its combination of practicality, technology and ownership support will make it more than just another seven-seater.
