The latest Isuzu D-MAX pick-up truck range is gaining strong momentum in Malaysia, with the introduction of its new 2.2-litre diesel engine helping to strengthen the model’s appeal through improved performance, enhanced refinement and better fuel efficiency.
Following the launch of the updated D-MAX range earlier this year, Isuzu Malaysia recorded a significant improvement in its position within the pick-up truck segment. The brand’s market share increased by three percentage points compared with the previous quarter, reaching 17.3 percent in the second quarter of 2026.
According to Isuzu Malaysia Chief Executive Officer Tomoyuki Yamaguchi, the latest D-MAX combines the model’s established reputation for durability and capability with a new level of driving refinement and efficiency.
“The traditionally-renowned capabilities of the Isuzu D-MAX now combines with a new suite of performance benefits that include refined performance and even greater fuel efficiency that offers Malaysian motorists with a superior all-round pick-up truck,” said Yamaguchi.
The new 2.2-litre diesel engine has quickly become a preferred choice among buyers, replacing the previous 1.9-litre unit while introducing improved response, smoother performance and stronger fuel economy. Paired with a specially developed 8-speed automatic transmission, the new powertrain is designed to maximise performance while maintaining efficiency and meeting Euro 5 emission standards.
Among the various variants available, the Isuzu D-MAX 2.2-litre Standard 4×4 Auto has emerged as the most popular choice, contributing 36 percent of total D-MAX sales.
Since its introduction in March 2026, the latest D-MAX line-up has expanded to offer one of the widest selections in the Malaysian pick-up truck market, with ten variants catering to different customer needs ranging from commercial applications to lifestyle use.
The new engine has also contributed to the growing popularity of the D-MAX Single Cab Auto, which is the first single cab pick-up truck in Malaysia to be offered with an automatic transmission. Combining easier drivability with strong load-carrying capability and Isuzu’s proven 4×4 system, the model has accounted for 60 percent of all D-MAX Single Cab sales.
Despite being designed as a work-focused vehicle, the Single Cab Auto’s user-friendly characteristics have helped it appeal to customers looking for a practical and capable pick-up truck that remains comfortable and easy to operate.
Isuzu Malaysia Light Commercial Vehicle Division Chief Operating Officer Kenichi Kudo highlighted that the new powertrain has elevated the overall driving experience of the D-MAX.
“The new range of Isuzu D-MAX with its new 2.2-litre engine and 8-speed automatic transmission have performed exceptionally well since its launch in April this year. The new powerhouse achieves improved heights in every aspect ranging from fuel efficiency, power, quietness and emission. That’s why we don’t hesitate to call it our ‘Best Engine Ever’,” said Kudo.
With its combination of improved efficiency, enhanced refinement and proven off-road capability, the latest Isuzu D-MAX continues to strengthen its position as a versatile pick-up truck for both commercial users and private motorists in Malaysia.
