GWM Malaysia is continuing its commitment to delivering meaningful ownership experiences by renewing its partnership with Malayan Xpedition for 2026. The collaboration was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed at PARC Subang on 19 August 2026, bringing together two brands united by a passion for exploration, responsible driving and outdoor adventure.
Building on the success of their first collaboration last year, the renewed partnership will see GWM Malaysia sponsor Malayan Xpedition 2026 while supporting the participation of GWM TANK owners in the multi-day overland adventure. The inaugural collaboration gave GWM TANK 300 and TANK 500 owners the opportunity to venture beyond conventional driving conditions and experience their vehicles in genuine off-road environments.
More than simply demonstrating the capabilities of their SUVs, the expedition gave participants the chance to develop greater confidence behind the wheel, while forging new friendships and creating memorable experiences along the way. For GWM Malaysia Chief Operating Officer Roslan Abdullah, such experiences are an important part of the ownership journey.
“At GWM Malaysia, we believe ownership should go beyond receiving the keys to a vehicle. We want to give our customers meaningful opportunities to experience, enjoy and build greater confidence in their vehicles,” he said. He added that Malayan Xpedition provides an ideal platform for owners to discover what their vehicles are capable of in real-world conditions, rather than simply being told what they can do.
Under the renewed partnership, eligible GWM TANK 300 and TANK 500 owners will also benefit from subsidised participation fees, allowing more members of the TANK community to take part in Malayan Xpedition 2026 at a special rate. The GWM TANK 300 HEV combines off-road capability with hybrid technology and everyday usability, while the larger TANK 500 HEV adds greater space, refinement, premium comfort and performance. Despite their different positioning, both models are built around the idea that capability, technology and comfort can coexist in one SUV.
The TANK family’s credentials have also been tested under far more demanding conditions, with two GWM TANK 300 DIESEL competition vehicles successfully completing the Asia Cross Country Rally (AXCR) 2026 in Thailand. The gruelling event covered more than 2,000 kilometres of difficult terrain and extreme driving conditions. Both vehicles completed all six legs of the rally and reached the finish line.
Car No. 114, driven by Olan Sornsirirat with navigator Somkiat Noychat, secured 12th place overall and fourth in the T2A-D class. Meanwhile, Car No. 128, driven by Thovald Thovaldsen alongside navigator Chapphawit Junlasantirat, finished 15th overall and sixth in the same class. Fielded by the GWM Ek Group Racing Team in Thailand, the vehicles were based on the production TANK 300 DIESEL, with modifications made primarily to meet FIA safety requirements and T2-class regulations.
Successfully completing the rally provided a demanding test of the vehicles’ durability, powertrain performance and engineering reliability, highlighting the capabilities of GWM’s diesel technology in unpredictable and punishing environments. For GWM Malaysia, the combination of owner expeditions and motorsport competition offers two different demonstrations of what the TANK brand is designed to deliver.
From Malaysian trails tackled by everyday owners to more than 2,000 kilometres of competitive terrain in Thailand, these experiences underline the importance of durability, confidence and genuine off-road capability. Stan Li Hao, Managing Director, Commercial Operations of GWM Malaysia, said the brand is proud to bring the TANK 300 and TANK 500 to Malaysian customers and provide them with vehicles capable of going beyond everyday driving.
“The GWM TANK models are built to deliver genuine capability where it matters most. Whether through our owners taking on challenging trails in Malaysia or completing the AXCR in Thailand, these experiences demonstrate the strength, durability and engineering behind the TANK brand,” he said.
Alongside its renewed commitment to the TANK community, GWM Malaysia is also marking the Merdeka and Hari Malaysia period with a nationwide customer campaign running from 1 August to 30 September 2026. Customers who book and register a new GWM vehicle during the campaign will stand a chance to become one of six winners receiving up to RM1,000 each in toll cashback.
For August, selected GWM models are also offered with limited-time savings of up to RM30,000, while every new GWM vehicle purchased comes with five years of free service maintenance. Terms and conditions apply.
