BMW Group Malaysia has expanded its compact premium portfolio with the introduction of the New Locally Assembled BMW 218 Gran Coupé M Sport, a sportier and more comprehensively equipped successor to the BMW 218 Gran Coupé Sport launched in 2025. Unveiled during the BMW Clubhouse event at Factory 19, Petaling Jaya, the latest variant arrives with a limited first allocation of just 50 units, offering Malaysian customers a more dynamic interpretation of BMW’s stylish four-door coupé.

According to Benjamin Nagel, Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia, the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé has long served as an accessible entry point into the BMW brand, delivering the marque’s signature driving pleasure in a package tailored for modern urban drivers. With the arrival of the M Sport variant, BMW is responding to growing demand for a more athletic and refined driving experience while continuing to offer customers greater freedom of choice.

The new BMW 218 Gran Coupé M Sport builds on the strengths of its predecessor with a series of upgrades that focus on performance, technology and premium equipment. Key additions include Adaptive M Suspension, Driving Assistant Plus, Parking Assistant Plus, a Head-Up Display, Harman Kardon premium audio system and distinctive M Sport styling enhancements.

At first glance, the new model adopts a noticeably more assertive appearance. The front fascia is dominated by BMW’s illuminated Kidney Iconic Glow grille featuring vertical and diagonal bars, flanked by Adaptive LED headlights with BMW’s signature four-eyed daytime running light signature. A sculpted bumper design with large air intakes further reinforces its sporty character.

Viewed from the side, the Gran Coupé retains its elegant fastback silhouette while gaining 18-inch M light-alloy wheels in Y-spoke Style 975M Bicolour and Individual High-Gloss Shadowline trim. The signature Hofmeister kink remains a defining design element, complete with an embossed “2” motif that pays homage to the model’s lineage. At the rear, vertical LED taillights and a newly added M Sport diffuser provide a wider and more purposeful stance.

Inside, the cabin combines digital sophistication with sporty detailing. The BMW Curved Display integrates a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.7-inch central touchscreen running BMW Operating System 9 with QuickSelect functionality. The system supports touchscreen operation, voice control and seamless connectivity through BMW Live Cockpit Professional.

The M leather steering wheel, M Anthracite headliner and Illuminated Aluminium Graphite trim create a more performance-oriented ambience, while ambient lighting with M-coloured accents adds a distinctive visual touch. Front sport seats with electric adjustment and memory function are standard, alongside Veganza perforated upholstery, wireless charging, automatic climate control and Comfort Access.

Further elevating the cabin experience are newly introduced features such as the Head-Up Display and a 12-speaker Harman Kardon HiFi sound system producing 205 watts of output. Practicality remains intact with a generous 430-litre luggage compartment.

Powering the new BMW 218 Gran Coupé M Sport is a 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine operating on the Miller cycle for improved efficiency. Producing 156 hp and 230 Nm of torque, the engine is paired with a seven-speed Steptronic dual-clutch transmission featuring paddle shifters. Power is delivered to the front wheels, enabling a 0-100 km/h sprint in 8.6 seconds before reaching a top speed of 230 km/h.

The chassis has been extensively refined, featuring a single-joint MacPherson strut front suspension and a three-link rear axle. BMW’s directly controlled wheel slip limitation system enhances traction, while Adaptive M Suspension allows the vehicle to balance comfort and handling precision according to road conditions and driving style. The result is a more engaging and composed driving experience that remains true to BMW’s performance-focused heritage.

Technology and safety have also been significantly upgraded. Driving Assistant Plus introduces Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go functionality and Steering and Lane Control Assistant, while a comprehensive suite of safety systems includes Lane Change Warning, Front Collision Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Exit Warning and Emergency Braking functions.

Parking Assistant Plus further enhances convenience through advanced camera and sensor systems. Features such as Surround View, Front Panorama View, Remote 3D View, BMW Drive Recorder and Park Assist Professional make manoeuvring in tight urban environments significantly easier.

Connectivity remains a major highlight, with BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, Amazon Alexa integration, BMW Digital Premium services, Personal eSIM support and BMW Remote Software Upgrades all included as standard. Owners can also utilise BMW Digital Key Plus, allowing compatible smartphones to function as vehicle keys.

The new BMW 218 Gran Coupé M Sport is available in Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Brooklyn Grey and Portimao Blue. Customers can choose Black Veganza perforated upholstery across all exterior colours, while Coral Red upholstery is exclusively available with Black Sapphire paintwork.

Ownership benefits are further strengthened through BMW Group Malaysia’s “Relax. We Care.” programme. The package includes BMW Proactive Care, which continuously monitors vehicle health and alerts owners to potential maintenance requirements before issues become serious. Owners also receive BMW Roadside Assistance and access to BMW Service Online for added convenience.

The BMW Service & Repair Inclusive (BSRI) programme provides a four-year unlimited mileage warranty together with four years or 80,000 km of complimentary scheduled service coverage, ensuring greater peace of mind throughout the ownership journey.
