PRO-NET made a strong statement at the Penang Autoshow 2026, reinforcing its position as Malaysia’s leading EV brand. Held under the organisation of MARii, the three-day event highlighted not just growing sales momentum, but also the emergence of a vibrant EV community in Northern Malaysia.
The event drew notable figures including Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, MARii CEO Azrul Reza Aziz, and PROTON Deputy CEO Dato’ Ir. Abdul Rashid Musa. Their presence underscored the importance of the EV transition and the role Proton e.MAS is playing in shaping Malaysia’s electrified future.
Over the course of the autoshow, Proton e.MAS recorded more than 760 customer engagements, ranging from test drives to confirmed bookings. These numbers signal a clear shift in consumer mindset—from curiosity about EVs to genuine intent to own one—particularly in the northern region.
One of the most memorable highlights of the event was a large-scale, owner-led EV convoy that brought together 30 Proton e.MAS vehicles. Featuring models such as the e.MAS 5, e.MAS 7, and e.MAS 7 PHEV, the convoy journeyed from Juru across the iconic Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge before arriving at the Penang Waterfront Convention Centre. This marked the first time a national EV brand successfully organised a convoy of this scale across the bridge, showcasing the practicality of EVs for longer journeys beyond city driving.
The convoy wasn’t just about vehicles—it was about people. More than 80 owners, accompanied by their families, participated in the drive, creating a gathering of over 200 individuals. The strong turnout highlighted the growing sense of community among Proton e.MAS owners and demonstrated how EV ownership is evolving into a shared lifestyle experience.
On the product front, the Proton e.MAS 5 stood out as a key driver of interest, while the e.MAS 7 and its newly introduced plug-in hybrid variant continued to attract attention. The debut of new colour options—Jade Green for the e.MAS 5 and Emerald Green for the e.MAS 7 PHEV—added further excitement, drawing visitors to the brand’s display.
Beyond the vehicles themselves, Proton e.MAS also used the platform to introduce its Global Modular Architecture (GMA) to Northern audiences for the first time. This advanced platform emphasises safety, modularity, and future-ready engineering, helping potential buyers better understand the technology behind the brand’s EV offerings.
According to PRO-NET CEO Zhang Qiang, the developments in Penang reflect a broader behavioural shift. Malaysians are no longer just exploring EVs—they are committing to ownership. At the same time, the growing participation of owners in events like the convoy signals that the EV journey is increasingly about connection, support, and community.
Penang’s position as a leading EV market, accounting for over 64% market share year-to-date, further reinforces the region’s importance in Malaysia’s electrification push. With strong dealership support and increasing public awareness, Proton e.MAS is steadily building both trust and accessibility in the EV space.
Looking ahead, Proton e.MAS aims to bring this momentum nationwide through its ongoing Golden Roadshow. Upcoming stops include AEON Melaka from 19 to 24 May, followed by East Coast Mall in Pahang from 24 to 28 June. These roadshows will offer more Malaysians the opportunity to experience electrified mobility firsthand and engage with the brand’s growing ecosystem.
As Proton e.MAS continues to expand, it is clear that its journey goes beyond selling vehicles. By fostering a connected and confident community, the brand is helping to redefine what EV ownership means in Malaysia—making it not just a personal choice, but a collective movement toward a more sustainable future.
