MG Motor Malaysia marked its second anniversary with notable momentum, using its “Passion To Drive” showcase at Bamboo Hills to highlight a promising start to 2026. The celebration reflects more than just a milestone—it underscores the brand’s rapid progress in product development, customer engagement, and long-term commitment to the Malaysian automotive landscape.

The opening quarter of the year proved pivotal, with the brand gaining traction across several fronts. A standout achievement came with the MG Cyberster earning the Performance Car of the Year title from MARii, reinforcing MG’s growing credibility in delivering electric vehicles that blend performance, innovation, and striking design.

Internally, alignment and collaboration were strengthened through a nationwide Dealer Conference held alongside Chinese New Year celebrations in February. The gathering brought together MG’s expanding dealer network, setting a unified tone for growth and enhanced customer experiences throughout the year.

March marked a significant leap forward with the rollout of the MGS5 EV CKD at the EP Manufacturing Berhad facility in Melaka. As MG’s first locally assembled electric vehicle in Malaysia, this milestone signals a deeper commitment to localisation, technological advancement, and the development of the country’s EV ecosystem. Priced at RM116,900, the MGS5 EV CKD is positioned as an accessible entry point into electric mobility, further supported by promotional offers and nationwide test drive availability.

Beyond product launches, MG actively engaged with consumers through festive campaigns and experiential initiatives. From Chinese New Year and Hari Raya showroom events to its “Experience British Driving Dynamics” campaign, the brand created multiple touchpoints for Malaysians to interact with its vehicles. These efforts were complemented by roadshows at popular destinations such as Desa ParkCity, The Curve, and IOI City Mall, bringing MG’s offerings closer to everyday consumers.

Globally, MG continues to push technological boundaries. At its Tech Day in Frankfurt, the brand introduced its Hybrid+ system and unveiled the world’s first mass-produced semi-solid-state battery, signaling ambitious strides in electrification and future mobility solutions.

This combination of local execution and global innovation translated into strong commercial performance. The company recorded a 57% increase in sales compared to the previous quarter and a 39% rise year-on-year, reflecting growing market confidence and interest in its lineup.

Looking ahead, MG is set to participate in the Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS), where it will present its latest advancements and future direction. The presence of Jozef Kaban, Vice President of Global Design at SAIC Motor, is expected to further spotlight the brand’s evolving design identity on a global scale.

Expansion remains a key priority. Plans are underway to introduce additional MG 3S centres in Kuantan and Rawang, improving accessibility for customers nationwide. At the same time, MG continues to invest in aftersales infrastructure, with a growing network of body and paint facilities to support long-term ownership satisfaction.

With a solid foundation laid in the first quarter and a clear roadmap ahead, MG Motor Malaysia is steadily building a sustainable and competitive presence—driven by innovation, localisation, and a strong connection with its customers.
