foodpanda Malaysia has expanded its pandasafe safety training initiative to Penang, marking the programme’s first move into Malaysia’s Northern region as the company continues strengthening support for its delivery partners nationwide.

Held on 20 May, the latest training session reflects the growing importance of rider safety within foodpanda Malaysia’s broader panda hearts initiative. Since its introduction in August last year, the structured safety programme has successfully reached 250 delivery partners across the country, combining technology-driven monitoring with practical safety education.

A key feature of the programme is the use of telematics technology, which tracks riding behaviours including speed compliance, harsh braking and cornering patterns. The collected data enables foodpanda Malaysia to deliver personalised classroom coaching tailored to individual riding habits, moving beyond conventional awareness campaigns.

Based on training sessions conducted for 200 delivery partners in the Klang Valley since August 2025, the company revealed that 87.1% of participants recorded measurable improvements in their safety performance scores, while the remaining 12.9% successfully maintained their existing safety standards.

According to Shubham Saran, Director of Operations at foodpanda Malaysia, the positive results demonstrate the company’s long-term commitment towards delivery partner wellbeing.

He explained that rider safety is fundamental to the company’s operations as delivery partners represent the backbone of the business and play a major role in maintaining customer trust. Beyond improving road safety, the programme also aims to equip riders with financial knowledge and resilience through a broader support framework.

foodpanda Malaysia is targeting to train 400 delivery partners nationwide by the end of the year, with plans to continue expanding the initiative further in the future.

The programme is supported through collaborations with several public and private sector partners, creating a more comprehensive learning experience for participants. Delivery partners receive first response and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training from Allianz Malaysia, while practical riding safety sessions are conducted alongside Hong Leong Yamaha Motor.

To help riders build long-term financial resilience, Hong Leong Bank provides financial literacy and scam awareness education, while PERKESO contributes social protection and safety induction modules.

Feedback from delivery partners has also been encouraging, with many participants reporting greater discipline on the road, increased awareness of unsafe riding habits and improved confidence when dealing with risky traffic situations during daily deliveries.

These outcomes highlight the effectiveness of the pandasafe initiative in transforming road safety into a consistent daily practice rather than simply a compliance exercise.

Looking ahead, foodpanda Malaysia plans to continue expanding the programme into Kelantan and other East Coast states. The company also expressed interest in collaborating with additional strategic partners to further enhance the initiative and introduce more safety-focused incentives for delivery partners across Malaysia.
