Malaysia’s Viper Niza Racing Team once again demonstrated its resilience and competitive spirit at the iconic Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, finishing 4th in the GT3-AM Class and 7th overall in Round 2 of the Michelin 24H Series. The hard-earned result keeps the team firmly in championship contention as the season progresses.
Following this performance, Viper Niza Racing now sits joint first in the GT3-AM Class standings of the Michelin 24H European Series with 56 points, tied alongside Hofor Racing and HAAS RT. With three rounds still remaining, the title fight remains wide open. The team is also within striking distance in the overall GT3 standings, trailing the leader by just 10 points.
Although the team narrowly missed out on securing a third consecutive podium at Spa—a circuit where they have historically excelled—they delivered an impressive comeback drive. Starting from 15th overall and 9th in class, the trio of Douglas Khoo, Dominic Ang, and Aaron Lim steadily climbed through the field in a race that tested both pace and strategy.
The endurance contest was split into two segments, with over five hours of racing on Saturday followed by another six and a half hours on Sunday. Competing against a strong grid of 40 cars dominated by manufacturers like McLaren, Audi, and Porsche, Viper Niza Racing stood out as one of the top-performing teams using the Mercedes-AMG GT3 EVO.
Dominic Ang led the opening stint, quickly advancing the team to 5th in class within the first hour. By the end of Race 1, the team had moved up to 8th overall and 4th in class. In Race 2, their momentum continued, reaching as high as 6th overall before ultimately finishing 7th overall and 4th in class after completing 239 laps.
The team’s performance was highlighted by a fastest lap of 2:17.985, showcasing their pace around the demanding 7.004km circuit. Despite this, they narrowly missed the class podium by just two laps, with HAAS RT securing the final podium position in their Audi entry.
Team Principal and lead driver Douglas Khoo reflected positively on the result, noting that while a podium finish slipped away, the team executed a clean race with strong pit work. A late safety car period, however, shifted the advantage to rivals, impacting their final standing.
Despite the setback, the result adds valuable championship points and reinforces Viper Niza Racing’s position as a serious contender in this year’s European campaign. With consistency proving crucial, the team remains focused on capitalizing on the remaining rounds.
Viper Niza Racing continues to receive support from key partners including Motul, IWC Schaffhausen as its official watch brand, Momentum Autoparts, and Sparco, all of whom play a vital role in the team’s pursuit of success on the international stage.
