BYD Malaysia is taking tangible steps to transform environmental awareness into real-world impact through its “BYD Light the Change” corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme. What began as a digital platform encouraging public pledges has now evolved into meaningful on-ground initiatives, reinforcing the company’s commitment to sustainability and community engagement.

Following a successful campaign that gathered over 1,200 public pledges, BYD Malaysia has begun translating these commitments into action with a tree-planting initiative at The Waterfront @ ParkCity. The effort represents a significant milestone, as digital intentions are converted into physical contributions that benefit the environment.

Held in conjunction with Earth Day, the initiative brought together a diverse group of participants, including teams from BYD Sime Motors, dealer partners from BYD and DENZA, employees, media representatives, and students from The International School of ParkCity. In total, 120 მონაწილators planted 120 trees across 10 native species, carefully selected to promote biodiversity and revitalize the urban green space.

Central to the initiative is the use of the Miyawaki method, an advanced reforestation technique known for its ability to grow forests up to ten times faster and significantly denser than conventional methods. This approach enables the creation of self-sustaining ecosystems within just a few years, making it particularly effective in urban environments where green spaces are limited.

According to Jacob Ma, Managing Director of BYD Malaysia, the programme is about more than scale—it is about meaningful, consistent action. By involving partners, communities, and younger generations, the initiative aims to instill a shared sense of responsibility for the environment while creating long-term impact.

The tree-planting activity is part of BYD’s broader global mission to help “Cool the Earth by 1°C,” aligning local efforts with international sustainability goals. As the programme progresses, BYD Malaysia plans to expand its environmental initiatives beyond urban reforestation to include ecosystem restoration projects such as mangrove conservation. The company has also committed to monitoring the growth of the planted trees and sharing updates over time.

Beyond environmental stewardship, “Light the Change” also reflects BYD Malaysia’s dedication to supporting communities in times of need. In response to a recent fire in Kampung Bahagia, Sandakan, which displaced thousands, the company mobilized its network to deliver aid to affected families. Working alongside BYD Sime Motors and local partners, collection points were established and essential supplies distributed to evacuation centers, reaching approximately 1,000 victims.

Through these combined efforts, BYD Malaysia demonstrates that corporate responsibility extends beyond business operations. By integrating sustainability initiatives with humanitarian support, the company continues to build a programme that not only addresses environmental challenges but also uplifts communities when it matters most.
