The latest chapter in pick-up truck innovation has arrived with the introduction of the 2026 Isuzu D-MAX, now enhanced by a brand-new 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine. Designed to deliver a more refined driving experience while maintaining the brand’s hallmark strengths, this new powertrain signals a significant leap forward in performance, efficiency, and environmental responsibility.

Long celebrated for its durability, fuel efficiency, and versatility, the D-MAX has built a strong reputation among Malaysian drivers. The 2026 update builds on this foundation, combining rugged capability with improved comfort, advanced technology, and a refreshed design to create a more well-rounded offering in the competitive pick-up segment.

At the heart of this evolution is the new 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine, which surpasses the outgoing 1.9-litre unit across key metrics. Power output has increased by 8.7 percent to 163PS, while torque sees a 14.3 percent boost, reaching an impressive 400Nm between 1,600rpm and 2,400rpm. Notably, more than half of this torque is available from just 1,000rpm, providing strong low-end responsiveness that enhances both daily driving and off-road capability.

Paired with this engine is a new 8-speed automatic transmission featuring sequential shift, offering smoother gear transitions and improved driving dynamics. Whether navigating urban traffic or tackling demanding terrain, the updated drivetrain promises a more engaging and efficient driving experience.

The new 2.2-litre engine is introduced across several variants, including the popular Premium 4×4, 4×2 Auto Plus, and the widely favoured Standard 4×4. Meanwhile, the flagship X-Terrain continues to be powered by the proven 3.0-litre engine. Expanding the lineup further is a segment-first offering — a Single Cab variant equipped with an automatic transmission, catering to users seeking practicality with enhanced convenience. This model also benefits from Rough Terrain Mode, Isuzu’s intelligent traction control system designed to improve stability on challenging surfaces.

In another notable achievement, the entire 2.2-litre range complies with Euro 5 emission standards, positioning it among the cleanest pick-up trucks in its class. This reflects a growing emphasis on sustainability without compromising performance.

Beyond the powertrain, the 2026 D-MAX receives several visual and functional upgrades. Exterior enhancements include redesigned lighting elements, a refreshed grille, updated wheel designs, and new side steps. New colour options such as Inishmore Green Metallic and Obsidian Gray Mica add to its modern appeal, while automatic variants feature body-coloured bumpers for a more contemporary look.

Inside, the cabin is equipped with upgraded infotainment systems, including a new 10-inch display for higher-spec models and a 7-inch unit for the Standard variant. Practical additions such as Tailgate Assist and the widespread inclusion of Rough Terrain Mode across all 4×4 models further improve usability and convenience.

Despite the enhancements, ownership remains accessible, with only a modest road tax increase compared to the previous 1.9-litre model. Pricing for the new range starts from RM103,121.20 in Peninsular Malaysia for the Single Cab variant, while the Premium 4×4 is priced from RM141,821.20.

To further enhance value, all variants come with a comprehensive ownership package that includes free periodic maintenance for up to 20,000km or two years, along with a 5-year or 150,000km warranty. The flagship X-Terrain stands out with an extended 7-year unlimited mileage warranty, reinforcing confidence in long-term reliability.

With its upgraded engine, improved features, and stronger environmental credentials, the 2026 Isuzu D-MAX is set to reinforce its position as a leading choice for both work and lifestyle needs, offering a compelling balance of power, efficiency, and modern practicality.
