Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has previewed the all-new electric Mercedes-Benz C-Class, marking a significant new chapter for one of the German automaker’s most established model lines. Combining the familiar elegance and comfort associated with the C-Class with an all-electric powertrain and a new generation of digital technology, the model aims to bring a fresh interpretation of the premium executive saloon.
The first fully electric C-Class retains the characteristics that have defined the nameplate over the years, but introduces a purpose-built electric architecture that promises more cabin space, improved comfort and greater flexibility. The Malaysian market will initially receive the Mercedes-Benz C 300 4MATIC electric AMG Line Plus, which is available for pre-booking at an estimated price starting from RM360,888.
The electric C-Class adopts a sportier silhouette, with a low front end, flowing roofline and rounded fastback-style rear. Short overhangs, sculpted body surfaces and pronounced wheel arches further contribute to its athletic appearance. One of its most distinctive features is the redesigned front grille, which combines a dark chrome surround with a smoked-glass mesh structure and an illuminated central Mercedes-Benz star. The grille also features animated lighting sequences when the vehicle is unlocked, locked or charging.
This is complemented by DIGITAL LIGHT headlamps with an illuminated star-inspired design, while the rear receives four round star-pattern taillights integrated into split lighting units. The Malaysian-specification model also features the AMG Line Plus exterior package, bringing 20-inch AMG multi-spoke alloy wheels, a Night Package with high-gloss black exterior accents and illuminated surround lighting with animated Mercedes-Benz projections.
Aerodynamics have also played an important role in the development of the electric saloon. With a drag coefficient starting from 0.22, the C-Class is designed to reduce energy consumption, with Mercedes-Benz highlighting that even a 0.01 improvement in drag coefficient can contribute approximately 2.5% more range on longer journeys.
Moving inside, the electric C-Class benefits from its dedicated electric vehicle platform, which allows for a longer wheelbase and improved cabin packaging. Measuring 2,962mm, its wheelbase is 97mm longer than that of the conventionally powered C-Class saloon. This translates into an additional 12mm of front legroom, while the panoramic roof contributes up to 22mm more front headroom and 11mm more rear headroom.
Practicality has not been overlooked either. The rear boot offers 470 litres of storage capacity, complemented by a 101-litre front boot for additional luggage or charging equipment. Perhaps the biggest talking point inside is the new 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen, which stretches across the dashboard to create a seamless digital interface. Featuring high-resolution displays and more than 1,000 individual LEDs for its matrix backlighting, the system also allows the driver and front passenger to adjust screen brightness independently.
The front passenger display includes a camera-based blocking function to help minimise distractions for the driver, while still allowing the passenger to access entertainment and other functions. The interior also features a new multifunction sports steering wheel in Nappa leather, physical controls for selected functions, wireless charging trays and a redesigned centre console. A selfie and video camera integrated into the central display supports facial recognition, video conferencing and photography.
Adding to the cabin’s ambience is the SKY CONTROL panoramic roof, which features nine independently adjustable segments that can switch between transparent and opaque in milliseconds. It also incorporates 162 illuminated stars, with colours coordinated to the cabin’s ambient lighting. There are 11 ambient styles available through the MBUX Hyperscreen, while an active lighting function can synchronise visual effects with music playback.
Mercedes-Benz has also placed considerable emphasis on cabin refinement, incorporating extensive sound insulation, laminated front windows and specially designed motor mounts to reduce noise and vibration. The THERMATIC automatic climate control system features two-zone temperature adjustment, air recirculation and fine-particle and activated charcoal filters.
Underneath its sleek exterior, the electric C-Class introduces a rear-mounted permanently excited synchronous motor (PSM), paired with an innovative two-speed transmission. The transmission uses a short 11:1 first gear ratio to deliver strong acceleration from a standstill, while the 5:1 second gear ratio is designed to improve efficiency and performance at higher speeds.
According to Mercedes-Benz, the system allows the electric motor to operate more efficiently in different driving conditions, whether navigating urban traffic or travelling along the highway. The 4MATIC system adds an additional electric motor on the front axle, providing all-wheel-drive capability when additional traction or power is required. A disconnect unit allows the front motor to be disengaged under lighter driving conditions, reducing energy losses by up to 90% at the front axle.
The result is a combination of 310kW of power and 800Nm of torque, allowing the electric C-Class to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 4.5 seconds. Mercedes-Benz has also equipped the model with a comfort suspension featuring an adaptive passive damping system, designed to balance handling precision with long-distance ride comfort.
Powering the electric C-Class is an 85kWh usable-capacity lithium-ion battery operating on an 800-volt electrical architecture. Mercedes-Benz claims a WLTP driving range of up to 690km, while its DC fast-charging capability supports charging speeds of up to 320kW at compatible 800-volt charging stations. Under suitable conditions, the manufacturer states that the battery can recover enough energy for up to 290km of driving range in just 10 minutes.
For home and destination charging, the vehicle also comes equipped with a 22kW onboard AC charger. Energy efficiency is further supported by a new One-Box braking system capable of regenerative braking at up to 300kW. The system can recover energy even when the ABS is activated, allowing many braking situations to be handled without relying on the conventional friction brakes.
The electric C-Class also introduces the Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS), which underpins its infotainment, navigation and vehicle functions. Its MBUX Virtual Assistant supports more natural conversations, while Digital Extras allow owners to add selected features and services after purchasing the vehicle through the Mercedes-Benz Store or app.
Navigation is supported by Google Maps technology, with Mercedes-Benz Navigation with Electric Intelligence calculating routes and charging stops based on factors such as battery charge level and driving conditions. The model also introduces augmented reality navigation technology previously offered in higher-end Mercedes-Benz models such as the S-Class and EQS, providing visual guidance to help drivers negotiate complicated junctions and manoeuvres.
For driver assistance, the electric C-Class can be equipped with up to 27 cameras and sensors. Its MB.DRIVE ASSIST system provides steering support for partially automated driving, while MB.DRIVE PARKING ASSIST 360 offers a comprehensive view of the vehicle’s surroundings during parking manoeuvres. Safety equipment includes up to 11 airbags, PRE-SAFE technology and a standard front-centre airbag. An acoustic presence indicator also alerts pedestrians and other road users to the vehicle’s presence when travelling at speeds of up to 30km/h.
The all-new Mercedes-Benz C 300 4MATIC electric AMG Line Plus is now available for pre-booking in Malaysia, with an estimated starting price of RM360,888. Customers can also consider the Mercedes-Benz Agility+ financing programme, which offers estimated monthly instalments starting from RM3,988. The package includes a fifth-year Star Gold extended limited warranty and four Compact Service Packages, alongside flexible end-of-agreement options and a guaranteed future vehicle value.
