SAIC Motor Malaysia has officially launched the all-new locally assembled MG ZS, introducing two powertrain options for the compact SUV segment: the MG ZS 1.5 Turbo and MG ZS Hybrid+. Priced at RM103,900 and RM109,900 respectively, both models are available in Peninsular Malaysia, excluding insurance. The new MG ZS is offered with a choice of conventional turbocharged petrol power or a hybrid system designed to prioritise fuel efficiency. Customers who book either variant can receive early-bird benefits worth RM3,000, together with five years of complimentary maintenance.

Additional promotions are available until 31 December 2026. Buyers of the MG ZS 1.5 Turbo can access a special financing package through Hong Leong Bank and Bank Rakyat, while customers opting for the MG ZS Hybrid+ will receive an additional RM3,000 year-end reward on top of the early-bird benefits.

According to Emory Qi, Managing Director of SAIC Motor Malaysia, the introduction of two powertrain options is intended to cater to different driving requirements, giving customers the flexibility to choose between petrol performance and hybrid efficiency. The locally assembled model is expected to strengthen MG’s position in Malaysia’s compact SUV market, where buyers have a growing range of powertrain options to consider.

The MG ZS adopts a sporty exterior design, featuring a distinctive front fascia, Connected Hunter Eyes headlights and black grille accents. Aerodynamic body sculpting, LED rear taillights, a rear spoiler and 18-inch alloy wheels complete its exterior appearance. Four colour options are available across both variants: Flare Red, Silver, Andes Grey and York White.

Measuring 4,430mm long and 1,818mm wide, the SUV is designed to accommodate everyday family and commuting needs. Its cabin features an all-black interior with perforated leatherette seats, while both front seats offer ventilation. The dashboard incorporates a 12.3-inch floating infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, alongside a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. A panoramic sunroof is also included, while 30 storage compartments are distributed throughout the cabin to improve everyday practicality.

Luggage capacity stands at 443 litres with the rear seats in place, expanding to 1,457 litres when they are folded down. The combination of passenger space and flexible cargo capacity is intended to accommodate daily errands, family activities and longer trips. Both variants also feature three driving modes — Eco, Normal and Sport — allowing drivers to adjust the vehicle’s response to their preferences and driving conditions. Their suspension systems incorporate lightweight, high-stiffness materials, with the aim of balancing ride comfort and handling.

For buyers who prefer a petrol-powered SUV, the MG ZS 1.5 Turbo uses a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine with direct injection and an all-aluminium construction. The engine produces 170PS (125kW) and 275Nm of torque, with power delivered through an eight-speed high-performance CVT. The transmission is designed to accommodate torque loads of up to 325Nm. MG quotes combined fuel consumption of 6.9 litres per 100km. With a 55-litre fuel tank, the petrol variant is positioned as an option for motorists seeking a combination of responsive performance and conventional refuelling convenience.

The MG ZS Hybrid+ combines a 1.5-litre Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder petrol engine with a 100kW electric motor and a 1.83kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) battery. The hybrid system produces a combined maximum output of 215PS (158kW) and 465Nm of torque, with a three-speed dedicated hybrid transmission managing power delivery. MG states that the Hybrid+ can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 8.7 seconds. Its quoted fuel consumption is 4.7 litres per 100km, lower than the figure stated for the 1.5 Turbo variant. The Hybrid+ also has a smaller 41-litre fuel tank, with a claimed driving range of up to 870km.

The system supports eight propulsion modes and can operate in electric-only mode at speeds of up to 80km/h under suitable conditions. Unlike a plug-in hybrid or battery-electric vehicle, the MG ZS Hybrid+ does not require an external charging connection, as its battery is managed by the hybrid system. The difference between the two variants is therefore not limited to their power outputs. The 1.5 Turbo offers a more conventional petrol driving experience, while the Hybrid+ combines electric assistance with lower claimed fuel consumption.

Both MG ZS variants come with MG PILOT driver assistance technology, which includes 16 functions such as Intelligent Headlight Control and Intelligent Cruise Control. The SUV has also received a five-star ANCAP safety rating. However, as with other vehicles equipped with driver assistance systems, these features are intended to support the driver rather than replace attentive driving. MG iSMART connectivity is included as well, allowing owners to access selected vehicle functions remotely through a smartphone, including keyless entry-related functions.

SAIC Motor Malaysia is offering an upgraded warranty package for the first 3,000 customers, comprising a seven-year, unlimited-mileage vehicle warranty for both MG ZS variants. For the Hybrid+ specifically, the hybrid battery is covered by an eight-year or 160,000km warranty. Test-drive units are now available at authorised MG showrooms nationwide, allowing prospective buyers to compare the petrol and hybrid versions before making a decision.

The MG ZS Hybrid+ will also be featured at an MG roadshow at 1 Utama Shopping Centre from 29 October to 2 November 2026, operating daily from 10am to 10pm. Further information and test-drive arrangements are available through www.mgmalaysia.com.
