GWM Malaysia has officially opened bookings for the all-new GWM ORA 5 HEV, giving Malaysian buyers another electrified option in the increasingly competitive compact SUV segment. Previewed in Malaysia earlier this year, the new hybrid SUV is expected to be priced at around RM115,000, although the final selling price and full specifications will only be confirmed when the model officially launches in Malaysia in November 2025.
Positioned as a compact SUV that combines electrified performance with the convenience of conventional refuelling, the ORA 5 HEV is powered by GWM’s Hi2 intelligent hybrid technology. Under the bonnet is a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine paired with an electric motor, producing a combined 223 PS and 476 Nm of torque. Despite its performance-focused output, GWM claims fuel consumption can be as low as 4.4 litres per 100 km.
One of the ORA 5 HEV’s key selling points is its claimed driving range. With a total range of more than 1,100 km, the SUV is designed to cover daily urban commutes as well as longer journeys without requiring drivers to plug in and recharge the vehicle. GWM says the Hi2 hybrid system has been developed to provide smooth and responsive performance across different driving conditions, while maintaining a balance between performance and efficiency.
According to Stan Li, Managing Director of Commercial Operations at GWM Malaysia, the ORA 5 HEV is intended to challenge expectations of what a compact hybrid SUV can offer, combining distinctive styling with strong performance, efficiency and long-distance capability. The model also forms part of GWM Malaysia’s broader New Energy Vehicle strategy, with the company continuing to offer customers a choice of hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully electric vehicles.
Roslan Abdullah, Chief Operating Officer of GWM Malaysia, said the ORA 5 HEV brings the company’s latest hybrid technology into the compact SUV segment while providing another route for Malaysian motorists looking to move towards electrified mobility.
