Proton e.MAS is proving that Malaysia’s appetite for electric vehicles is growing faster than ever, with the brand recording its strongest monthly performance since launch in August. A total of 6,047 Proton e.MAS vehicles were sold in August, including 5,999 domestic registrations, marking the first time the brand has crossed the 6,000-unit monthly sales mark.

Remarkably, the milestone comes just 20 months after the launch of the Proton e.MAS 7 on 16 December 2024, making Proton e.MAS the fastest xEV brand in Malaysia to surpass 6,000 units sold in a single month. Put another way, Proton e.MAS was registering a vehicle roughly every seven minutes throughout August. The numbers also strengthen Proton e.MAS’ position as Malaysia’s No. 1 EV brand, while highlighting how quickly electrified mobility is moving from an emerging choice to an increasingly mainstream option for Malaysian motorists.

The biggest contributor to August’s record-breaking performance was the Proton e.MAS 5, which accounted for 4,770 domestic registrations — almost 80 per cent of the brand’s total domestic sales for the month. The larger e.MAS 7 and e.MAS 7 PHEV also maintained healthy demand, registering 613 units and 616 units respectively.

The sales performance was not confined to a single corner of the country either. Selangor accounted for 51 per cent of Proton e.MAS’ domestic sales in August, followed by Johor and Penang. Together, the three states contributed 71 per cent of total domestic sales, demonstrating strong demand across some of Malaysia’s key automotive markets while also pointing towards the broader growth of EV adoption nationwide.

The August surge has also given Proton e.MAS a significant boost to its 2026 performance. During the first eight months of the year, the brand recorded 27,402 domestic registrations, alongside 453 export units shipped to Nepal, Trinidad & Tobago, Singapore and Mauritius. That brings Proton e.MAS’ total year-to-date sales to 27,855 vehicles.

For PRO-NET CEO Mr Zhang Qiang, however, the significance of the August milestone goes beyond simply counting cars. “Reaching 5,999 registrations in a single month is a tremendous milestone for Proton e.MAS, but above all, it is a reflection of the trust and support Malaysians have placed in our brand,” said Zhang. With Malaysia celebrating the spirit of Merdeka and looking ahead to Malaysia Day, he added that the milestone also represents the country’s willingness to embrace change as it moves towards an electrified future. “We are proud that more Malaysians are choosing to be part of this journey towards an electrified future, and we are deeply grateful for the confidence they have placed in Proton e.MAS,” he said.

Getting more Malaysians into EVs requires more than simply putting new models into showrooms, and PRO-NET has continued expanding the infrastructure supporting the Proton e.MAS range. The brand now has 60 dealerships, 46 service centres and 10 body & paint centres across Malaysia. That represents a sizeable expansion from the 36 dealerships and 29 service centres it had as of 31 August 2025.

Charging support has also grown alongside the retail and aftersales network. There are now 103 DC fast chargers available at selected Proton e.MAS dealerships nationwide, while the brand’s Integrated Live Charging Map provides drivers with access to more than 4,700 charging points through the e.MAS vehicles and e.MAS app.

Importantly for apartment and condominium dwellers, more than 1,500 of those charging points are located across over 600 high-rise residences, helping address one of the more practical challenges facing urban EV adoption. The expanding network forms part of PRO-NET’s wider ambition to become a new energy ecosystem automotive solutions leader — one where the EV is only one part of the ownership experience.

PRO-NET is also looking beyond infrastructure and vehicles by investing in the people who will support Malaysia’s growing electrified automotive industry. The company has launched its inaugural Aftersales Skills Competition in collaboration with TVETMARA, giving Malaysian technical personnel an opportunity to sharpen and demonstrate their expertise in EV aftersales. Beyond the competition itself, the collaboration is intended to strengthen local technical capabilities and develop a deeper pool of skilled Malaysian talent as the country’s xEV sector continues to expand.
