Proton has taken another step in expanding its electric vehicle (EV) presence beyond Malaysia with the introduction of the Proton e.MAS 5 in Nepal. The launch makes Nepal the second international market to receive the compact electric SUV after its recent debut in Singapore, highlighting the company’s continued focus on growing its export business and strengthening its position in the regional new energy vehicle (NEV) market.

The Proton e.MAS 5 was officially introduced in Kathmandu through Proton’s authorised distributor in Nepal, Jagdamba Motors. The launch event brought together representatives from the Malaysian Embassy in Nepal, government officials, business partners, members of the media and invited guests. It also marks the second Proton EV available in the country, following the arrival of the Proton e.MAS 7 in 2025.

The overseas expansion follows encouraging demand in Malaysia, where the Proton e.MAS 5 has emerged as the country’s best-selling electric vehicle in 2026. The model’s strong domestic performance has provided momentum for its international rollout, with approximately 200 bookings reportedly secured on the first day of its launch, reflecting positive customer interest.

According to Edmund Lim Meng Thong, Chief Executive Officer of Proton International Corporation Sdn Bhd (PICSB), the launch in Nepal represents another milestone in the company’s export journey and reflects growing international confidence in the Proton e.MAS brand.

He noted that following the model’s success in Malaysia and its recent introduction in Singapore, Nepal has become the latest market to receive the e.MAS 5, supporting Proton’s strategy of achieving sustainable export growth through vehicles that combine advanced technology, safety, quality and value.

Proton continues to view exports as a key pillar of its long-term business strategy, with the company aiming to diversify its revenue streams while increasing the global visibility of Malaysian-made vehicles. Expanding the Proton e.MAS range into overseas markets also aligns with its ambition to become a recognised regional player in the growing NEV segment.

The Proton e.MAS 5 is built on a vehicle platform developed by Geely that has already been adopted by more than 800,000 customers globally. This broad customer base provides confidence in the platform’s maturity, technology and long-term support.

For the Nepalese market, the e.MAS 5 is offered in two variants, Prime and Premium, catering to customers seeking a compact electric SUV for daily urban driving. The model combines modern connectivity features, a practical cabin layout and a competitive driving range to suit everyday mobility needs.

To coincide with the launch, Jagdamba Motors is offering special introductory pricing for early customers. The Prime variant is priced at Rs. 35 lakhs, while the Premium variant is available from Rs. 40 lakhs.

With Nepal joining Singapore as the latest export destination, Proton continues to broaden the international footprint of its electric vehicle lineup as it seeks to strengthen the Proton e.MAS brand across regional markets.
