Proton’s electric mobility brand, Proton e.MAS, has achieved another significant milestone by surpassing 20,000 vehicle sales in less than seven months of 2026, reinforcing its position as Malaysia’s leading electrified vehicle (xEV) brand. The accomplishment reflects the growing acceptance of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles among Malaysian consumers, while highlighting the brand’s rapid expansion since entering the market.
According to PRO-NET, the wholly owned subsidiary of Proton responsible for the Proton e.MAS brand, the company captured a commanding 42.6% share of Malaysia’s electric vehicle (EV) market and 41.8% of the overall xEV segment during the first half of 2026. These figures place Proton e.MAS firmly at the forefront of the country’s transition towards cleaner and more sustainable mobility.
The impressive sales performance has been driven by a diverse product lineup that caters to different customer needs. Leading the charge is the Proton e.MAS 5, which accounted for 60.9% of total sales, proving that affordable electric mobility continues to resonate strongly with Malaysian buyers.
Meanwhile, the Proton e.MAS 7 remains a popular choice for those seeking a feature-rich, all-electric SUV, contributing 15.8% of total sales. Complementing the lineup is the recently introduced Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV, which has quickly established itself in the market by making up 23.3% of total deliveries. Its combination of electric driving capability and extended driving range through a plug-in hybrid powertrain has appealed to motorists looking for greater flexibility.
Beyond the sales figures, the milestone represents the confidence placed in the Proton e.MAS brand by more than 20,000 customers across Malaysia. It also reflects the company’s efforts to make electrified mobility practical, accessible and suitable for everyday use.
PRO-NET Chief Executive Officer Zhang Qiang expressed appreciation to customers for their continued support, describing the achievement as a shared success between the company and Malaysians who have embraced the Proton e.MAS vision. He noted that customer trust has been instrumental in the brand’s rapid growth and remains the driving force behind its future ambitions.
As Malaysia’s national automotive brand, Proton continues to align its electrification strategy with the government’s sustainability initiatives. Through Proton e.MAS, the company supports the objectives outlined in the Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint (LCMB) and the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), both of which aim to accelerate the adoption of low-carbon transportation while reducing emissions from the automotive sector.
In addition to expanding its model range, Proton e.MAS has been investing heavily in its ownership ecosystem. The company continues to grow its nationwide dealership and service network, strengthen aftersales support and collaborate with charging infrastructure providers to make EV ownership more convenient for customers throughout the country.
Looking ahead, PRO-NET plans to maintain its momentum by introducing new electrified models, enhancing customer experiences and further developing Malaysia’s new energy mobility ecosystem. With strong market acceptance and an expanding portfolio, Proton e.MAS is well-positioned to continue playing a leading role in the country’s journey towards a more sustainable automotive future.
